No stories to share, but I'm glad you started this thread. Sometimes the other posts in this subreddit can be a bit overwhelming. So, it's nice to read about the more positive stories and experiences people have to offer here.

Feminist or not, this is an excellent phrase to be aware of. So, I appreciate you sharing this! Hopefully, I won't make this mistake in future discussions.

I like the concept of teachers talking to students about the possible advantages and disadvantages each student may face based on factors they have little to no control over. I don't even mind them using a questionnaire format, as long as the teacher followed up with a conversation to provide further context. However, in this case, I don't believe that this test was written with the best intent and information to help students understand broader social issues and discrimination. Ideally, I'd hop…

I can definitely understand your viewpoint and it's important to recognize how traditional gender roles have shaped present-day attitudes, including services provided to different groups of people. However, I would refrain from assuming that the extremely negative viewpoints have no weight or significant impact. Even if it is just a vocal minority making outrageous claims about men's rights and issues. I agree with you, it's sometimes better to ignore hateful comments, but I wouldn't want to do …

I agree with you wholeheartedly. While I'm happy to see this news shared, it will be important to see the progress and challenges this new shelter faces. Even if it is successful in Toronto, other locations may struggle to implement their own program.

Based on what the other people have said, it sounded like this tweet was deleted, which I believe was the appropriate choice. Part of me would hope for an apology or follow-up discussion acknowledging the why that tweet was controversial, but I worry that the conversation would feel forced or fake. I can see why this may have been intended or interpreted as a joke, but it feels like there is too much missing context to know if she was making fun of extremist views or endorsing extremist views (P…

I appreciate that more efforts are being taken to openly talk about consensual sex, but (as many of you suggested) this poster only targets boys. Outreach materials and education programs should be designed to incorporate girls into this discussion. I've seen other posters just simply choose to not specify gender, which may have been the better option in this case? Not entirely sure, but considering the amount of educational resources available online (including infographics), this could've been…

Is there a way to file a report on this issue? Either the news agency, the article itself, or the site it came from? I honestly feel bad for even clicking the article. It's very discomforting and awful to think that this is acceptable to do to other people.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback! If you have those statistics easily accessible, feel free to share them here.

That sounds like a good idea. Are you gonna update this thread with responses you get from feminist subreddits or just link us to the new thread? I am really interested to see what feedback is given.

No problemo! Thanks for being so open to everyone's feedback.

First, rethink your strategy. You assume that "proving" your professor wrong will make for a better paper. It won't. It will show that confirmation bias has influenced your research and conclusion. What you really want is to get your professor to examine this topic from a new, engaging, and informative perspective. You could find research that doesn't explicitly deny/support claims of sexism, but provides data that talks about a more nuanced aspect of gender roles. Second, clarify your topic. Wh…

No offense to your friends and family, but have any of them been trained to deal with discrimination in the workplace? Or, have at least gone through the process of personally filing a complaint? I worry that their lack of experience will be used to justify inaction and conclude that life is just unfair. Do you have a co-worker, HR representative, or employer that you would feel comfortable talking to about this issue? Personally, I'd want you to file a formal complaint so it shows up on her rec…

(I'm gonna be upfront here, I was one of the people who posted a #MeToo statement. So, I understand that I could be a bit biased in this discussion.) You bring up some excellent points. It was really disappointing to see that the movement didn't extend to men the same way it did for women. I hoped that this tag would've given any person the opportunity to talk about their experiences without shame or humiliation. I wish I knew of a better approach to address sexual harassment and assault. I'm a …

Interesting question. I guess it depends on what topics would be considered relevant to men's health, would the following suggestions count? Male Contraception and Reproductive Health Y-linked disorders Illnesses and diseases that disproportionately impact men Work-related injuries that disproportionately impact men

Thanks for sharing this article! It's unfortunate that the people who created this product are running into all sorts of distribution issues. I think it would be great if men were given more options for contraception. Not just for additional freedom or peace of mind, but to be safer from potentially abusive relationships. I'm not sure how common it is for men to deal with reproductive coercion and birth control sabotage, but the availability of male contraception allows a greater opportunity for…

That's a great question and I wish I had a definitive answer to that. After doing a quick google search I found a site that explains the issue quite well. In short, the biological sex you were assigned at birth is used to determine whether or not you should be required to sign-up for selective service. So a person who made a male to female (MTF) transition would have to register for selective service, but a person who made a female to male transition (FTM) would NOT have to register. If someone …

If we're keeping selective service we might as well not limit it by sex or gender. I'm curious though, what kind of physical condition do you need to be in order to actually be drafted? I assume they spend time training to help build fitness and discipline, but still...Given my current fitness, I wouldn't be able to pass the wildland firefighters pack test. I can't begin to imagine what the military requires.

Very interesting article. Can't say I agree with everything the author stated, but I do appreciate reading another person's perspective. Gonna be honest, I'm coming into this conversation with some bias since I was one of those people who wrote a #MeToo post. So, I recognize that a lot of these comments could directly apply to me. The thing I liked most about the article was the author's focus on victim's refusal to share or act upon the abuse at the time. That some people would only share their…

For the most part, I agree with what you're trying to say. It would be helpful if more men spoke up about their experiences, but I don't want anyone to feel forced to talk about their #metoo experiences. I noticed that some of the men who posted #metoo on Twitter felt slightly uncomfortable because they didn't know if their experience counted or if the hashtag could only be used by women. That's something I want to have change. I want the #metoo discussion to be a time for any person to share th…

It's been a couple hours since you posted this, so I hope things are going better. Because I didn't see the conversation you were referring to, it's difficult to know why there was so much tension between what you and your family/fb people were trying to convey. With that said, I can imagine how frustrating and tiring it must be to have your ideas outright ignored. Do you have a safe person you can talk to? Like, someone who is willing to listen without being overly critical? Regardless, you did…
