I would say any relationship where you have to plan out spending Time together is long distance. If you can't hit them up and get together on a whim it's long distance. If you have to go so far that you have to spend the night it's longs distance. If you spend more time on the phone or Skype than together in person it's long distance. One benefit of an ltr over spinning plates is the amount of time. Plates require more effort to get and replace than a well established ltr. For example I work many hours and have many hobbies, so a ltr is much better suited to my lifestyle than trying to balance a bunch of spinning plates anymore. If I had to choose lifting vs running I would pick lifting, but with that said you can lift and still run from time to time.
