Irrelevant. "Pressing charges" is mostly a TV show thing. If the DA/County Attorney/whatever thinks a crime was committed and they can get a conviction, charges will be filed. As a crime victim, you don't really have any say at that point. You can file a complaint with the police alleging a crime was committed against you, or not, and you can choose to cooperate with the investigation, or not. These will often factor into the decision to file charges, but it's really out of your hands.

There was a case in Minnesota of a couple who had a baby with brittle-bone disease, and they fled the state because CPS was going to take their baby away. They wouldn't believe the doctors, and thought the parents were just breaking the kid's bones with no other injuries.
