You hear the same thing with regards to slavery and the civil war for example, aka only a small percentage of the population actually owned slaves, so race based slavery was not a widespread cultural problem. At best it's class reductionist, aka tries to change the phenomenon of gender privilege (or race, ethnicity, etc) to one purely of class.
