I recently watched Liar. The premise was interesting and the first episode was great. I though there would be a show about fake rape claims but no can't have that. Every man has to be a rapist. And it kept going downhill so fast I couldn't stop watching the train wreck unfold.

For women it's not often even to attract someone. It's to have status symbols everyone else has or even better getting one that your friends don't have to one up them. It doesn't matter if they actually have any use for it or not. Then they question your sanity if you buy something slightly more expensive that you've spend ages on researching and it's exactly what you want and something that you will be using on a daily basis.

But what about all the people who live in a concrete jungle and the closest lot of untouched soil is hours away? Like the majority of people in western countries. How are they supposed to get their "free" soil that happens to reside on land someone else owns. Skilled trades don't pay enough? Where the fuck are you man? In most western countries skilled trades pay really well, and as a bonus you don't have to spend ages in college accumulating debt. Also achieving financial independence isn't about how much you earn, it's about how much you spend and how much you can invest.

I have ~$5000 bike and a couple worth between $1000 and $2000. My yearly mileage ends up somewhere between 15000 to 20000 km on most years. When you're racing or just spend hundreds of hours on the bike yearly all those small advantages that the more expensive bikes provide are worth it. They are lighter, stiffer, faster and handle better. If you just commute and run errands on your bike then paying over $1k for it doesn't make much sense.
