The only time a publisher would own the copyright is if there was a contract in place between the author (whos owns it by default in all cases without any further action beyond creation) and the publisher stating such. Check the terms of the the site, users own their content here. This subreddit has the lowest average IQ I've seen on reddit. The shit you idiots come up with is nothing short of astounding.

Fair use does not cover a direct copy of the entire work, ever. Not in audio, not in video, not in literature. Not the entire work. If he jad quoted parts of it, with attribution, perhaps. Not the whole work. Not for a second. Ask the RIAA or MPAA about your misconception.

He absolutely does. What makes you believe he doesn't? He is the author, he hasn't given up the work to the public domain. He wasn't being paid under contract by someone to write it. There are no contracts involved that would relieve him of it.

You do need his permission. You are in violation of US copyright law. The original author and the servers this content are on are all US based. He didn't release it into the public domain by posting it on reddit. That isn't the way US copyright works.

That simply isn't an issue. No one gets to dictate to others what they can and cannot be quoted as saying. This isn't a quote. This is a full copy of the entire work. It's a violation of US copyright law. it's still a massively dick move to take something and then post it despite the originator asking you not to And illegal.
