When speaking on diet, should I just go cold turkey on all sweets / soda, or just in moderation. I tend to suffer from acid and I believe that also has to do with my poor diet. Are carbs equally important as calories, or should I try to keep the carbs low.

That would be the 5x5 Stronglifts? That means 5 Reps of 5? I should be able to perform those, but my starting weight would be rather low, just to get accustomed to the weight and find out where I stack up. I've heard that I should only lift what feel comfortable lifting 5-10 times per set, is that true? So it seems my Caloric intake should be about 2,585 per day, So I should attempt to achieve 3,000 A day? What types of whey would be good for someone starting out? Thank you for the response.
