Yep they work great, so long as the wood is still strong. Those drive-on car ramps that you buy in pairs work ok also, but for me I just jack up the car and slide them under the tires, my car is too low to drive up the ramps.

For mine, I bought some nice big wooden blocks. I block one of the back tires so the car won't roll, then jack the front of the car up, slide one wood block under each front tire, then lower the jack so the weight of the car is back on the tires, on the blocks. Then I remove the jack and proceed with the oil change. Now it can't roll (blocked rear tire) and it won't fall off of a jack stand. Obviously this wont work if you need to remove the wheels, but it works great for oil changes and visual …

Think of it this way. The business owner probably doesn't care what his business is named, he just wants to get repair jobs so he can make money.
