The pay for people having some job decreases (statistically) when they get competition that doesn't demand as much pay as they do. It could be that women demand less pay (don't dare to negotiate pay as hard as men) and therefore the competition of low-wage women decreases the wages for men, just as any low-wage competition lowers the wages.
