Everyone is doing the same thing as you. They think they're onto something because it worked for them, so they post it here. I don't know where I read it, probably here, but someone mentioned it's great for times like this. But, you can also use it when you're somewhere crowded or a bar or something. If eye contact is made, you can break it nicely with a quick smile, then wink and look away.

Sorry, completely forgot about October Man. And realized I should've been more specific.
