I'd say it's a synergistic combination of the two. I don't really have the time to give a proper answer but "normal" people push "weird" people to the outskirts. I don't think that you're disagreeing with me here but this is from the abstract of an article from Pubmed, "Social isolation seems to be related to suicidal behaviors in a direct and fundamental way." Suicide spikes in geographical regions like Alaska and after life events such as divorce. There is more than evidence floating around that links social isolation and suicide. One would think that the biggest opponents to false rape allegations would be women, for obvious reasons.
