What is the slander charge based on? She didn't correct other people when they accused the guy of raping her? While that's a terrible thing, I'm not sure how that's slander.

And unfortunately, that will probably be the lesson learned here. Be more heartless, because if you ever try to come clean later about falsely accusing a man of rape, it could mean severe consequences you aren't willing to suffer.

Not only that, but the pressure of their caseload ends up making them a part of the system that prosecutes based on "strong enough" suspect rather than defending their client from it. It's a shitty system to be poor in, that's for sure.

I'm not defending her actions, which are reprehensible, nor her attitude, which is unfortunately unsurprisingly blasé regarding the consequences of her inactions. But what did she say that could be considered libel/slander/defamation of character? The OP is about what she didn't say. How can someone be held liable in a civil court for what they didn't say? How does that work exactly?
