I just read her story and it is amazing. She is a champion.

Glass escalator? First time I've heard that. So true. It happens in so many women-dominated fields, too. As soon as men start entering it, suddenly it gains respect. Like nursing.

I think this excerpt from Why Does He Do That? is very relevant here. "When I criticize my clients about their drunken abusiveness, they sometimes respond: “But I was in a blackout.” However, a blackout is a memory disconnection that happens after a drunk person passes out, causing the person to no longer know what occurred upon awakening. The person was still conscious during the event. If you ask an extremely drunk but still-awake person what happened earlier that evening, he or she can tell y…

Yep. 'Equality' and 'empowerment' are only condoned and supported by men when there there is something they stand to gain from it, like easier access to sex. And when someone points out that maybe that isn't so great for women after all (for the reasons stated in the above comments) then that dissenter is accused of not being 'woke' and slut-shaming. Knowledge is power, and the information that is being swept under the rug in this case is being done so by a group that has huge incentive to keep …

I agree, there's no reason to shame women for having casual sex. There is also no reason to shame women for being 'prudes' and not wishing to engage in casual sex. In general, I think shaming women for their sexual choices is bad, and we've had enough of it since the dawn of civilization. I just don't want to let one kind of shaming be okay an another not okay. None are okay. That being said, stating the often-denied risk factors of casual sex is not the same as shaming, just the same as stating…

The problem is not limited to the risk of getting emotionally attached to a one night stand. Casual sex has other risk factors such as damage to your reputation and the possibility of contracting an STD. And as we know, women are definitely more vulnerable to being turned into a social pariah from her 'easy' reputation and are physiologically more vulnerable to contracting STDs than men. I find that the women who defend their 'empowered' casual sex life like to pretend like these other factors d…

In real life I had very, very few opportunities for discourse about issues that FDS takes on, despite the fact that I went to one of the most liberal, "enlightened" colleges in my country. By the time I was there the only social issues that anyone talked about were LGBTQ and racial. Which are important, but most of my peers had the idea that women in general were pretty much done moving up in the world (or in our country, at least). Excluding non-cis, gender something-or-other. Which is another …

You're so right. What incentive do men have to develop their sense of empathy? No one expects sympathy or compassion from them their whole lives.

I have heard a name for this: walkaway wife syndrome. It's basically when a women gives up after years of trying to improve her marriage with no reciprocation from the husband. Tired of being ignored and her needs cast aside, she stops attempting to fix the broken marriage and instead focuses on making her exit plan. By the time she leaves she has emotionally and often financially moved on. During the exit-planning stage, she usually stops voicing her concerns about the relationship, because she…

The most heartbreaking part in my opinion. Suddenly you're alone, surrounded by people who will turn their back on you to make excuses for a man. Sorry you dealt with that.

I think it depends on the nonprofit/cause, and you have to vet them individually, just like men. I've volunteered at lots of places and it's just on a case-by-case basis. Some places are awesome and appreciate you and your time. Some places don't. One place I felt very overworked and stressed out was an exception. It was less that we weren't appreciated but more that they were underfunded and understaffed but heavily used. I stayed on for a while because I thought the cause was important, but pl…

This resonates with me. I'm an artist. It took me a long time to feel comfortable saying that as a career but it's true. I do commissioned work and sell other non-commissioned work as well. I've had this weird feeling for a long time that doing certain types of creative work is classified by many as 'women's work' despite the fact that historically, artist roles have been totally dominated by men. People will try to walk all over you both because you are a women and because you are a women doing…

I met my HVM through the business I used to work for. His company did some contract work for ours. I will say "business owner" as a criteria, with a grain of salt. My partner started his own business and slowly built it from the ground up to be what it is today. He has a good reputation among clients, but perhaps my favorite green flag was that his employees respect him and stick around. He hires a lot of women in what is a very male-dominated business. This could probably be a red flag in some …

I read about this in Why Does He Do That and it made me utterly enraged. In the past few years I have heard SO MANY men that I unfortunately know complain about how unfair the family court system is to men, and a handful of them even went through it - with pretty good results. One complete psychopath who isn't in my life anymore (never dated him, but he was a business partner of my boyfriend for a stint) was so proud of the hell that he put his ex-wife through to gain primary custody. He used hi…

That's very unprofessional, especially if he's your manager. Most of my employers in my life have been women so I'm not sure how I'd even handle that, but maybe some other ladies here could give some input.

I do keep learning that operating in my own best interest has never actually steered me wrong before. Putting myself second, however, has historically not worked out!

Women have bore the the monsters share of the spiritual/emotional while also beginning to shoulder the financial and familial in recent times. They are & mostly have become complete units. Men's roles have generally stayed the same. You just blew my freaking mind. Is this what we've gained from the liberation women fought so hard for? The expectation that now we will do everything, since that must be what we wanted, right? We weren't happy with being dependent housewives, so the only other optio…

I would start by making an honest list of what good you think he brings to the relationship and also the bad. Here, I'll start it for you. The Bad: Addicted to porn. Has it on YOUR laptop! Gross and so disrespectful. Doesn't work even though he's 32 years old Age gap - while 9 years can be doable sometimes, he was a 28 year old man that was okay with dating a 19 year old girl. That's not right. I am almost 28. I live in a college town with lots of younger people. 19 year olds are not in my datin…

How dare you have expectations of a man you're seeing?! Stop trying to clip his wings! Really though sorry about that, good riddance it sounds like. Honestly this always reminds me of when I was in college (design) and we'd get a project brief. Our professor would always say, "If you go outside of the parameters of the brief, you'd better be able to justify it." And yet someone (always a dude) inevitably didn't read/follow/care about the guidelines and wouldn't understand why they got a bad crit…

Thanks for giving me yet another reason to double down on not doing that. Why is it such a fetish for men to do to women, who already have a place for the penis to go? I think it's crazy that the hole literally designed by nature for penetration isn't 'good enough' for so many straight men.

"I don't know what you want from me" Holy cow this one. How in the world do you not know, because I literally just told you. "I don't know what you want from me" really means "I won't apologize or change my behavior because I'm incapable of considering that I might be wrong, so instead I'm going to pretend like you're giving me mixed messages, gaslighting you into believing that your expectations of me are confusing and irrational."

Thank you. Well put. My body has all kinds of desires that could be detrimental if I give in to them just because I have them. I want to eat chocolate and ice cream all the time but that would lead to me becoming unhealthy. I want to smoke cigarettes even though I quit long ago and I know they're terrible for me. So how do some of us look at giving in to casual sex to satisfy a sexual desire as something with no potential downside? Everything has a risk. You could get an STD. You could get a rep…
