Forgiving and moving on means she needs to be genuinely remorseful. I absolutely would not forgive until she's genuinely remorseful. I expect exactly the same treatment from my wife if I were to cheat. I don't get to blame her for my actions and I won't accept responsibility for hers. Edit: to be clear this also means you need to be genuinely remorseful for whatever you've done, but that's not an excuse to "lol mistakes were made" pat each other performatively on the back to sweep things under t…

It's OK not to kill the puppy and make her squirm. I'm a vengeful shit and I enjoy it. She's full of guilt and wants you to take it away from her. The guilt is not yours. Why would you? If it were me I wouldn't let her off easy and I'd be very careful to make the narrative extremely difficult for her. I'd make her kill the damn puppy herself and feel like shit while she does it.

The finances can be an easy "how serious are you" hurdle to throw back at her. Compute how much is required in savings without any funny business about anticipated pay increases etc. Discuss when she's going back to work etc. Be blunt and firm that it must be budgeted. You'll end up being completely wrong about how expensive it is, but that's not the point.

How did you find out about the affair? I missed that part. Is she remorseful or waiting for you to take the coup de grace?

No, walk-away wife game is when she's given up on you but can't leave yet. It's to avoid your attention and distract you from her switch to branch swinging mode. She gives up on the struggle with you and focuses on the exit.

It wasn't a covert contract though, it was entirely overt. You let her feed your ego and play you with walk-away wife game. It's not because you had secret contracts, it's because you were entirely too obvious. Women aren't stupid and they don't want to be reduced to sex sprockets in LTR. Sure, they'll gladly play them to distract you and see how you react. It's a sort of meta shit test. Why did you change your mind? My impression was it was more rejection of divorce/cheating/playing lifestyle r…

Interesting. Honestly, I haven't read any of his stuff. A lot of my perspective comes more from fundamental problems with language itself combined with other things related to how the brain is known to try and police to keep dreams and memory separate. That's not to say narrative isn't an extremely useful tool, but I see it as another proxy for describing reality to make predictions. Understanding narratives (particularly other people's fantasies about themselves) is extremely useful and effecti…

I hadn't read that one, it was a good read. It's interesting how differently I interpret things today than I would have a few years ago. For example, I was expecting some discussion about the fact that Amy Schumer clearly raped the taxi driver and then went on to victim blame and humiliate him publically. I mean look at the current kerfluffle over Adam Sandler putting his hand on a woman's knee. And here Amy's talking about being a rich white girl forcing an immigrant's hand into her cunt and ma…

If you're who I think you are, I don't understand really. Previously you wanted to leave her because she was sexually boring and you were restless and you wanted to increase your notch count. Now she's handed you the narrative where she's the bad guy and and you're flip-flopping? Did you want to leave her or hurt her? The only thing she's taken from you is the ability to take first blood and hurting her is what you really wanted. That's what you're realizing.

a 2005 study about speed dating that featured women 25-45 That study is fucking hilarious. The table of pre-survey data is just statistical noise. And then by the time it gets to the final post speed-date actual results it's omg how can we even suppress the BMI effect by making a model that's convoluted enough to get any other other meaningful information out of the data so that we can publish?

This was great. You quoted TLP and given the topic I wonder if you've read my favorite TLP mental masturbation piece that keeps unwinding the Narcissus tale? It's a long one but very worth it and dovetails nicely.

This isn't something I'd really think is worth wasting time over. If it's cold out blood is kept central and flow is reduced to extremities. That's why hands and feet get cold first. Get more blankets. Spoon to pool core body temperature and her feet will warm up. Or you can get her some fuzzy sleep socks. If you want to go full nerd mode, you should pay close attention to her foot comfort. The way the spine is laid out they're neurologically adjacent to the genitals (nerve wiring to the feet ac…

Ok so organization is your weak spot. Start tracking things. It doesn't have to be complex. If you don't like calendars or she doesn't like electronic calendars, just jot notes on an index card for the next week and carry the card with you so you can reference/add/update as needed.

A difference is that the actor doesn't confuse the role with himself. In fact a lot of actors get very angry about others forcing them to become the role they play when they're not "working". Leonard Nimoy vs Spock comes to mind. But also the struggles of child actors to escape their roles. It's sort of the reverse. Or... maybe it is the same. Hmmm.

You said something like that at the beginning and that's why I thought you were talking more about the actor (and not so much the character). The actor is real--the rest is just fiction. But the role is part of the attraction. All the women who lust over Hamm know intellectually that the role is fiction. Similar to the Dr. Ross/Clooney bootstrap. Anyway, I'll be interested in reading what you come up with.

So I say well if you come to bed earlier tonight we can find a way to entertain and relax you and you'll sleep a lot better. She snorts, turns around, and walking off says "um, no thanks, that's ok, I'm just fine." This fell into her "he doesn't actually give a shit and just wants to pile-on his need for sex" mind-space particularly since you were hesitant about it. A different approach would be to bring her to bed with you with the goal of helping her relax and learn better night-time habits. F…

Ah, that's different than what I thought you were getting at. I wonder if Jon saw the character that way. I can certainly see that the writers worked it that way--that Don is fake and Dick is real. My mind wanders a bit based on things I've read recently and one of them was What Everybody Gets Wrong about Jekyll and Hyde where the discussion is about making the mistake of thinking Hyde is separate from Jekyll and I wonder if a similar thing applies. I'm not up on all the psychology but I wonder …

It seems pretty clear when you combine it with things like ironic implementation. Rather than try to be the archetype, you try to be the person people could imagine seeing play the archetype. In reality Don Draper isn't "Don Draper" he's John Hamm implementing Don Draper. It's a subtle difference, but I see something useful there. There are other actors who could play Don Draper. And apparently Draper was offered to Thomas Jane before Hamm. Sure, it wouldn't be the same implementation of Don Dra…

This really gets at a core question: are alpha and beta independent or are they opposite ends of the same axis? The truth is: this question is a mirage. The dual mating strategies provides guidance: making successful human babies requires a lot of resources. Originally, this would mean finding strong men who can hunt and build shelter. They have good genes and will ensure survival of some of the babies (most of which will probably die). As we've been infected by the language and knowledge memes …

Have a look at software engineers. We can probably disqualify them as not software engineers, but we do have our Jacob Applebaums and Julian Assanges which mirror the Weinstein situation with people within Tor and WikiLeaks well aware of their behavior and actively constructing kayfabe to protect the projects.

No. If you're not capable of cheating on your wife, you're doing it wrong. That means both mentally capable and physically capable. Whether or not you cheat is your own decision. It's not some red badge of courage. What you cannot do is use your decision to not cheat to justify rotting in your incapacity and not doing the work.

She wants to talk about it when it's a concrete rather than abstract problem. She may think she can talk you out of it then or at least try to have a better conversation about what's going on. Or maybe she thinks can keep it from ever actually happening if she's able to keep you satisfied. I would get unambiguous clarification right now about whether she expects you to seek permission before fucking strange. I don't think the ass slap resolved anything.

Well, it seems like there's some remnants of that common law bullshit that hasn't been purged in some corners of the US. And it may be things like ongoing transitions where some of the population may be grandfathered so that it's more situationally dependent. In common law things tend to derive from tradition and examining behavior rather than state permission. I do find it odd that there seems to be a perception that common law is spreading rather than receding. Edit: Not a lawyer, just my gest…

Doesn't the no-questions-asked legal paternity of whomever the mom writes on the birth certificate only apply if she writes the name of her husband and he did not challenge it within a certain period of time? Basically it has an automatic signature by the husband that kicks in after a certain short period of time if not challenged. Without marriage the legality of the certificate must be established in court and resolved by genetics. This does gave a number of failure modes if the father doesn't…

I just don't see how she cheats and demands you put a noose around your neck? The cheating is on her. I'm not a lawyer but what about some sort of sham social-only marriage? (consult actual lawyers to get it right) She gets to pretend she's mariable. Have her party, etc. Legally you never marry it's just a LTR. You tell her that her repeated infidelity means you're not going to take that risk. She doesn't get to lock down your forgiveness. When she cheats again you just walk away.

What would they say differently if your friend were an omega with revenge porn jealous of the new bf and your sister (not her bf) were uncomfortable? Look, I'm trying really hard here to spell the womanese out for you. When women tell these stories they are never responsible for anything. It's always the boyfriend/ex who's responsible. So "your friend" (="I'm not a slut") made the porn. "new bf is uncomfortable" (="I'm totally not uncomfortable it's my bf because I'm totally not a slut"). Look, …

Your sister engaged in consensual sex that she enjoyed. Generally who gives a shit? "Bro code" is just a cover story for what's really going on--that they won't tell you because you are friends. You only know anything because your sister is absolutely certain (you know why) your friend has a photo (or more) of them fucking and he's already gone omega and weaponized it. Tell your friend that you know everything about the photos/etc and he needs to delete them immediately.

Sorry to say it sounds like you're a glorified motion-detector security camera. Don't wait for them to fire you or decide it's finally cost-effective to replace you with a machine. Don't give them a reason to replace you either--decide it's over and work on figuring out what's next. Leave on your own terms ASAP. Getting better with girls won't give meaning to a soul-crushing job. It's just a temporary distraction.

Anyone can type "dom seeking sub" in a profile. Everyone knows it's a shortcut that signals inexperience. Experienced subs don't waste their time with obvious posers--they are God-level masters of shit testing and that sort of low-level shit is boring. There's also an entire scene for social proof. "Subs" don't fuck "doms" because that's what labels tell them to do. They fuck doms because those doms know how to make them want to sub.
