He rejects her: "I want to date a girl who knows she wants me before she goes through a dozen other guys first." Saving a bridge with her? No. Why in God's name would you want to. For his other friends? Potentially. I think the other friends either don't know the full story or are being lied to. If he explained his side, apologized for being a little on the nose and reiterated his point he might win some of them back. But if he wants to nuke all those bridges that's cool to. Whether he should have been is a matter of option. Personally I wouldn't bother apologising unless he wants to save face with his friends.
