It's seriously a weight off. Change brings clarity, and having the freedom to do what you want is huge. The turning point for me was a few years ago, we were days away from being homeless again, I felt like an absolute failure at supporting my family. I realized how bad off I was while I was looking at the canyon and parking lot, trying to calculate how fast I'd have to be going to hit the river and not just land on the near bank. I had a moment of clarity, went home, and went over my pay stubs.…

For sure, I am going to make sure everything goes to the kids, maybe a token amount so she can buy something to fornicate herself with, I dunno.

That's the essence of being alone with someone else. It drains the soul.

Being lonely alone is bad enough, being lonely with someone else is a thousand times worse.

Yeah, I need to file for some modifications, but I didn't contest the facts of the divorce.

Yeah, mine was exceptionally quick, in Idaho if it's not contested it's 21 days from service to decree. She had moved into another room a year ago, she didn't present it as a separation up until I got served the papers that said it was. I didn't argue it because I had been prepping for an exit myself. It would have been nice if this had been handled in a controlled manner, but she just went and blew the escape hatch so oh well.

Thanks. Originally things were set up as traditional marital roles, where I'd bring in the income and she'd run the household. Power, internet, and phone were constantly being shut off, rent was always late, and I just thought I was doing a crap job of providing. When I looked at my pay stub and realized I had made $75k that year and we were days away from being homeless again, I took financial control back. I never wanted to be that guy, but I should have done it years earlier.

Yeah, the biggest issue for me has been not being able to find a path forward. I'd try and do something, and it'd get sabotaged. I used to get yelled at for never being home, criticized for job hopping, all in an effort to support our family. Then I pieced together that I wasn't failing at providing, she was just absolutely blowing money. For the last couple years I haven't been able to make any real long term plans, but now I have a path to follow.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
