To access peer-reviewed material, I would look for papers that quantitatively compare heterosexual female and male mating preferences. I recall coming across a statistic that something like 80% of males were judged "below average" by women. That might have been an OkCupid study, therefore not peer-reviewed; but in any case, finding this kind of information would help to substantiate the Apex fallacy.
