The mix of good advice, sound statements, and redpill doomerism is such a toxic cocktail especially for the masculine youth. It’s an ideologically brutal time to grow up.

It’s really obvious your information diet is high in processed foods. Social media isn’t very representative of real life.

I really don’t like framing it as a competition. I’m more oppressed than you is a very tiresome conversation.

Masculinity shaming. Yeah that makes some sense. I’ve seen lots of this. It can be hard to ignore.

I think that when we frame “the person for you” as rare, it’s to increase our perception of their and consequently our value. A thing or a relationship or a person doesn’t have to be rare to be valuable. To say that someone has a low bar is to me a bizarre way to frame the love that develops between people. By this logic we shouldn’t value dog’s tendency towards love as much, but that’s what we often admire most about them. I think when I hear people of any gender looking at a lineup of great lo…

Eating delicious food does not benefit anyone at all beyond short term gratification. Would it be better if we shamed anyone who sought flavor? I appreciate your question, but if I may criticize, it seems like you’re not exactly considering the issue from other’s perspectives, rather I see arguments that dismiss other’s interests. I wish you well on the road to more insightful philosophizing!

While I appreciate these are real problems, I want to provide counterweight to the implicit slut-shaming in your words. While what you’re describing is indeed a problem, I think that women can and do seek and enjoy sex—they aren’t all tricked into it. The question of how often of a problem different types of coercion are and the dynamics is a complex topic that isn’t done justice by using what one hasn’t seen as the primary metric. I haven’t seen sexism is the same reasoning I see from people wh…

To say this and focus explicitly on women is so fucking stupid. People get things from each other. It’s like saying that people with green eyes all are just trying to steal from you so don’t be friends with them. There are complex cultural dynamics but you aren’t talking about those; you’re revealing your failure to understand more than your reactionary experience.

Real reality, no I prefer my reality heavily influenced and filtered by my soft and squishy human brain, thank you.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/12/25 09:31 PM

I don’t know what exactly you’re referring to, but I get the impression you’re drawing some pretty broad generalizations. Understanding societal sociological dynamics is super difficult in my experience, and ultimately irrelevant to what all of us experience—individual interactions with individual people. It doesn’t sound surprising that women—and me lol—probably prefer a partner who has a money tree if it’s an option, but what that means about them and society is just not black and white, don’t…

There are so many implicit assumptions here that serve to dehumanize both men and women and simplify the sum of billions of complex social dynamics into an idea that is essentially so vague it’s not even useful to think about. This way of looking at relationships makes me sad.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/25 12:42 PM

It’s complicated, cause it’s the human mind and we don’t really understand ourselves. I think that “attractiveness” is in such flux it’s almost useless trying to define it. There is truth in that we as people think of beautiful people are more deserving of good treatment, and they certainly get better treatment and less critical scrutiny. Look at how often people treat the people they love like shit; that’s not even a gendered problem. Actual science on this subject is controversial and uncertai…

I’m sorry I wasn’t clear enough. I meant to communicate three different things: I genuinely am sorry if you’ve been mistreated. Is your spelling an intentional stylistic choice? The arguments you are making are, in fact, stupid.

I am really sorry if you’ve had men in your life who have hurt you. You deserve better than that. I hope you find better people, healing, and eventually peace. I found something as I was looking at some of your past posts and I feel duty bound to inform you of and which I find particularly interesting. The standard spelling of the plural form of yourself is yourselves, not yourselfs. I’m genuinely curious, how are you able to misspell that so consistently? Spellcheck tries to replace that for me…

I feel like blaming any group’s existence—particularly if defined on inherent characteristics—rather than on the conduct that is at the root of the group judgement, is a super dangerous thing to practice, if one doesn’t want to be the kind of person who cheers on crimes against humanity. It’s fair to say that men doing something are wrong for what they’ve done, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that men inherently are wrong for solely their sex. I don’t think that men are in particular need of …

Purgatory is a crazy word here to me. I feel like people who make this crazed discourse gravitate to extreme (often black and white) ideas, so they may like to theorize that either you’re gorgeous or you’re hideous, with no in between. It’s one bias I feel I see in these very emotionally charged groups.

“I believe her.” Powerful. I’m not hearing that so much these days!
/r/PurplePillDebate15/10/25 04:57 PM

I just want to applaud your consideration of the limits of your ability to decide what’s best for others. It’s so easy when we as humans really dislike something to decide it’s wrong for others without thinking it through, and I appreciate your tolerance. I find it’s the same logic applied by those who believe abortion is always wrong for others. It’s surprisingly hard to imagine someone with fundamentally different desires and comfort. On a more substantive basis, what do you think of other sub…

I think for me, when I hear the word objectively in this context, it should be truly universal and actually objective, not something this is individually variable and a subjective moral qualm. Perhaps it’s just that you are a moral realist, but I would say that something can be objectively weird in the same way that 2+2 objectively equals 4. To me, paying for sex might be weird to me, or weird to me and the majority of society who agree with me, but not objectively. The reason this distinction i…

Not a completely crazy thing to discuss. I suspect this also applies to mathematicians, though mathematical propagation isn’t something that I worry about. If there is a robust public education system that teaches children facts, explains the world from multiple perspectives, and instills value in U.S. constitutional ideals, I’m not super worried. Why are you implying there is a zero-sum dynamic in which advocating or paying for women’s health harms men’s health? I didn’t even read the whole article, but the areas they plan to focus on are largely concerning reproductive health, which is important and matters and will benefit from deeper research. Why is a billionaire providing money to the research of maternal health in any way problematic for men? Even if you are a misogynist, half of babies born are male and may benefit from this resea…

Disentangling cultural artifacts is basically impossible here. This is not useful research in quantifying essential male or female characteristics. You’re cherry picking a study that shows your separate conclusion, but doesn’t demonstrate it. It is useful in relating to people who likely had similar life experience to the subjects, however. Older ladies in this society apparently have a tough time emotionally with criticism, interesting.

lol beep boop. 🤖 /s I’m surprised that the sentiment that women cannot be met in society is coming from a married man, and I’m sorry to have judged you incorrectly. There’s a reasonable conversation to be had about how these dynamics progress and fail to progress. I think how forward one is is a tough line to walk. You seem unwilling to recognize there is a middle ground here. Society is incredibly diverse, there are lots of people who want lots of different things.

It sounds like you’re having a hard time finding people. I wish you luck on your journey. If you really want advice on where to find people, I have found that chilling out, and looking to have fun, with no pressure on meeting someone is more likely to lead to activities where you are doing something where your mutual attention is on the thing you are doing, not on each other. When it’s a straight up romantically or sexually explicit analysis, it is a more intimidating and high stakes situation m…
/r/PurplePillDebate22/07/25 06:34 PM

While I understand the aggression, I think the best response to this is to say, “I was born in 19XX, I have always tried to be kind to everyone I meet, and it has a deep and negative affect on my self image and wellbeing when you associate me with insert relevant accusation solely on the basis of my gender. Have I done these things?” If we let vindictive people win, society crumbles into feckless factional fights that are more trouble than they are worth.

This makes it sound like she killed herself because she lived as a man. Her Wikipedia states she did a social experiment where she lived as a man for 18 months, wrote about her experience, and talked about it. She was admitted to one or more locked psychiatric facilities at some point after that. The book she wrote about living as a man was published in 2006, and her death in Switzerland was in 2022.

I know that the LDS (Mormon) church pushed participation in Boy Scouts, and I have heard they more or less seceded once girls were allowed in. Don’t quote me on this, I don’t really know.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/07/25 05:38 PM

For my part, Girl Scouts meeting to do crafts and “girly things” while we Boy Scouts met to do crafts, explore nature, and learn outdoor skills never sat right with me. In my area, the Girl Scouts weren’t really available after primary school age, while the Boy Scouts were. It felt sexist and stupid, especially in contrast to what I now know to be Title IX mandated equal access to activities in the public school system. To be sure, having girls around would have certainly changed the vibe, but I…

Borderline stalking someone by engineering “random” interactions to try and intuit whether she may be interested in me doesn’t sound very fun or respectful, and isn’t something I would necessarily want someone doing to me. I wonder if she offered to buy anyone she was interested in a drink? I feel like there have been ideas that have trickled through culture in mildly counterproductive ways. For example, the idea that what you are wearing doesn’t give any form of sexual consent is in response to people dismissing victims of sexual assault on the basis of what they were wearing, and is a correct idea. As this idea is discussed, it also can be fairly reasoned that what someone wears is not a basis upon which one sho…

It sounds like you came into contact with lots of problematic opinions online, and that made you scared and angry. Through that you are trying to justify generalities about men as a group. What makes me more worried about you is that you say, “large percentage of the dating pool”. How large matters, and more importantly, what to do about it. Taking reasonable caution, being overtly hostile, and being implicitly biased is a complex web of dynamics that is hard to do right; hating all from a group…

Yes, but it sometimes leads to different social dynamics from normal, mutually enthusiastic sex. When you’re doing something you aren’t excited about for some other reason, the vibes aren’t always perfect. Huge emotional variability in this realm. How a partner reacts when there is a request to do something is very complex.

In response to another comment that was deleted: I think this is true (that men aren’t surprised but are frustrated that people don’t believe them when they confess their frustrations), and it’s everywhere, and it’s the biggest limit on democratic progress towards equality. When someone says “I’m treated a certain way for a certain reason”, others say, “well, I’m not, so I don’t believe you”. To me it demonstrates a complete failure of reason. Of course they don’t experience that social dynamic,…

“…why do we have these gender wars…” -> “Men protect and provide…if they don’t…[they] may as well not even exist…” There is a difference between the way things are, and the way things should be. In 1890, things were a certain way, in 1965 things were a certain way, and in 2025 things are a certain way. Many of our social conditions aren’t permanent or immutable. The reason we talk about these things is because we can decide as a society what we value, and try to live by those values. There are t…

We humans have a tendency to like clear and unambiguous categorizations. I think that in trying to simplify a complex dynamic into straightforward categories, you are essentially ignoring the complexity of the reality. From a rhetorical perspective, regardless of your personal life or your political action, that comes across as fairly biologically reductive, which on a metaphysical level rhymes with someone like Charlie Kirk, and while I don’t think you see yourself as doing that, and I can see …

This is so true. It’s also the case that it’s not just gender but other aspects of your circumstance that affect your experience and how people treat you. So often people imagine a specific archetype. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think that in one sense, you are right, this is how most people operate. Most people are not considered or consistent in their understanding or application of their own ethics. Especially if you think something is obvious, it is crucial to look for well founded counter evidence, not supporting evidence. Trying to prove yourself wrong is the only way to increase your understanding of the limits of your hypothesis. If you look solely for supporting evidence, you can prove almost anything. It cannot be overstated how epistemologically dangerous this approach is, despite its popularity. Also, look for quality research and thinkers, do not assess on the basis of outcome.

It sounds like you’re frustrated and perceive that women are being blamed unfairly. It’s true that women are often unfairly blamed for things, but that’s not what I have ever taken from the reasonable discourse around divorce/parental separation. I see blame directed at parents of any gender that make children and then separate, especially if they leave the kids to their ex to raise. Women are more harshly judged if they leave the children with a man, but I think most people who aren’t children …

There is much cultural history that underpins how most people conceive of sexuality, and it often shapes how we think of others, and what we think we find attractive. 100% of lives end in death. Most agree that life is still worth living. Accepting risk is hard. Remember that meaning isn’t something rooted in the outcome, it arises through the process of life. If you would rather not marry and you think that will be a better life, then don’t get married. If you fear being alone after a marriage ends, then avoiding marriage won’t solve that problem.
