Yes. Was married to a borderline. Wasn’t educated or exposed to that type of person when I married her. When the script flip came, I lasted a few years until leaving was inevitable in order to survive.

What are, if you don’t mind my asking , the circumstances that prevent you from getting out of there? I’m not sure I understand sleeping and staying with the ex while amid divorce. Money ? I understand…. That said, trust me when I tell you, keep your shit together, fitness, health, confidence etc …..you’ll do well and the things you miss will present themselves. Often.

Because (I think) the way I’m reading it he’s gifting all of his separate assets to his parents well prior to the legal contract with the wife. He’s theoretically paying rent up front. I realize separate asset laws protect their holders, but as we know there is always that “conditions have changed during the marriage” ripcord that judges often fall for.

Heed the advice of the other posters who are telling you to demand half. Assuming you’re in a community property state, you’re probably (but certainly don’t count on it ) in good shape based on what you’re stating regarding both of your backgrounds. A rare but possibly for you, fortunate set of circumstances. As far as overthinking about starting over at age 40, this is laughable in a good way. I did it at 45 with dire circumstances then but excelled within 3 years. By age 50 I had made up and g…

I’m 57. It’s been mixed . Yes some like that. Certainly my ex is one and I’m paying lifetime for it so it’s not like I’m talking out of my ass. But I’ve dated a Wells Fargo regional VP, Many self made RN’s who do very well, a commercial real estate broker, as well as quite a few other self made professionals. A bunch of them did faaar better than their ex’s. So things aren’t always what they seem forever when we’re pissed off in the current moment.

Not what you want to hear now, but as you get older, it gets a better in that many already have their own money and don’t want a contract.

If you get to a full ten years in some states, regarding DV it can be very unlucky. That said yes, it’s worth it to give it a go with someone new and better. Always strive to pick better moving forward. Just don’t move them in, or get anywhere near a legal contract.

I sold mine. Immediately! She got a huge chunk of it but the freedom was well worth it. Maybe not the answer you’re looking forward to, but damn …..it was a moment forward like being projected by a rocket. If you do so , of course do so with solid personal financial logic first. Never on emotion.

No. I mean yeah, it would feel great to do this . I get it! But in the long run might be many underlying factors involved starting with : how long do you plan on being in the area ? What is the realistic likelihood anything will be done ? Is he already a well liked and established Dr combined with how large or small of a community are you in? More importantly, other than a temporary good feeling revenge …..what is the long term benefit to you in doing so? Will it have a positive real time benefi…

Sidebar: moving forward only focus on things in your control. Example: in the case of future promotions that will raise your income, factor in the total return value to you: is she working , what will the taxes be, who will supervise you and how much will you lose to her? Case in point , myself : I passed on two promotions because I’d lose 30% to taxes, about 30 more to my unemployed ex, and have a headache of a new supervisor. My ex was salivating for that new cash but it never came to fruition…

Wasn’t difficult at all. Many of them had been through the same or similar experiences. I suggest not talking about your ex on dates and focusing on looking forward.

Don’t compare yourself (feeling rare) to others situations. They may only appear happy. Give it all and yourself some time to adjust. After awhile, listening to some of the married guys- you might feel very fortunate that you’re no longer one of them.

Anyways, after the first date or 2nd date do you guys text them often (good morning txt, ask them how their day was) No or do you just set up the next date Yes noticed women don’t reciprocate a lot if you text them … Correct ^ Wait awhile and get to know each other in person. IME. Focus on setting up fun dates.

It’s been a little over a decade but my experience was pretty good, in that I got good insight into how to better understand the differences in how women perceive things. This helped craft how I set my divorce and spoke with our kids. That said, was fortunate in that she grew up with older brothers and was raising HS age boys at the time- so she was well exposed to men in a positive way- which was paramount. You move on by putting yourself out there and taking risks and accepting, if not welcoming many various rejections, mishaps and mis matches along the way. This is one way that your confidence will be very high when things all align- and, trust me they eventually will. Don’t get sexual until your confidence and the (mutual) comfort/ attraction is solid.

It’s been decades ago but like you I was pressured by my parents. I wasn’t all in but did it anyways. I recovered well financially about 10 years post divorce but it was by faaaarrrr the worst mishap and financial drain I ever signed myself into. YRMV, but I’d hold off….

Very generally speaking, depending on many variables: yes, in regards to women’s convos about divorces - it’s the guy who is most often blamed. FWIW, I was the divorce filer and have an adult daughter. I don’t discuss my feelings about her mother with her.

Certainly the genuine abuse cases are terrible and I’m not advocating those are false. My input was more about common “blame the ex” game, and that’s it’s often present and to expect it but not get involved. Glad you avoided the PTSD.

Not entirely sure of the deep psychology behind it . For certain I know a few of those from my past, simply weren’t “over” the ex, or (years later) whatever the traumatizing circumstances were that caused the breakup - they were still pissed off about it.

They’re out there but rare. Just protect yourself expecting these stories and behaviors will happen in some form. Realize there is no “the one”. Good luck ETA: example: woman I’m with now is amazing for me but often trash talks of how shitty ex hubby was (with money). The dude is a retired doctor, owns a successful biz, a stellar home in a $$$$ zip code. So I’m confident it’s all bullshit. Yet, not my problem…..

The circumstances you’re describing are quite normal . I’m 56 and dating these past 12 years, friends and I notice that regularly within the first 5 dates the woman begins trash-talking the ex BF or ex hubby in some form. “Verbally abusing/ cheating/ manipulating/ alcoholism “ are the common go to’s. There’s no way to decipher if any of it is true, or what the other guys story was. But you can expect some form of it to come out. Every. Single. Time. Won’t matter if you’re 33, 43 or 56. You can b…

Not sure if it’s different for other states or court jurisdictions- but it was (California 2011) correct in my case. Ex refused to go back to work, so I saw no reason to promote and take on additional career liability at the time , just to lose 30% in taxes and hand over a large (in addition to all of the half CP stuff she already received from the divorce). Kids were well taken care of, and I waited a few years before retiring to promote. You can’t get time with your kids back- it is, invaluabl…

You’re not the weird one at all. In fact I’d say you’re way ahead because you have the wherewithal to stay out of it while you’re not feeling good about it. At some point you may think differently. Everyone has their own timeline of when (or not) to start dating again and there’s certainly no hard fast rule that you have to bring someone into your kids lives. So don’t sweat this stuff.

Again. Kudos to you for recognizing and taking action on an absolutely not salvageable script flip at one year. Before any children were involved. You file first , so that you can confidentially tell your family, future romantic interests and most importantly your daughter, that it was you who made the decision and initiated action to remove yourself from this bullshit forever. My ex did a refusal as well. Scheduled a court date to handle it. Judge ordered her to sign it in the courtroom or she would validate and date stamp it right there herself (female judge in a CP state). Took 19 months but well worth it. My similar case was years ago, but I switched to a female/ mom family law attorney and things changed in my favor. First thing she did was schedule a full day trial which the other side wasn’t expecting. Every detail of bullshit was meticulously laid out for the judge to peruse. It was painfully expensive but didn’t end well for the ex. My kids were young like yours so in the long game it was worth it. Have a long term , horizon plan, rather than being focused on the current (no pension and your 35%) Figure out where you want to be in 10 years in what is obtainable financially. My STBXW and I have signed divorce papers and are living separately, but there’s a ways to go before everything is finalized This is very common. Mine took 2 years from initial filing to final stamped hard copy from the judge. There are a multitude of reasons for these very common delays that seem to be the norm. After I signed and started the divorce process forward, I didn’t consider myself married, but that’s a personal decision in regards for dating. Bottom line - tell the woman right away. …

So, personally I feel there is a huge double standard There is, it’s been this way for awhile and it’s here to stay. Your only ammunition is, if and when you perceive a new date changing her behavior due to your business history (if I read it right) then you can dismiss her. I also stay tight lipped when doing backgrounds on them . Silence and knowledge is golden here. Let em run their mouths to you about all their vast knowledge of you while you just sit back and smile. Ex escalated behaviors that were congruent and later diagnosed as BPD. People ask how I got entangled without seeing it, but it came down to me being then much younger and uneducated to the issue, plus her keeping it reeled in pre marriage, then not living with her prior. There’s a fair amount of projected anger in at least one age group dating sub as well. If you’re a guy, and don’t fall in with the ruling cartel, you’ll be promptly booted after being labeled into their default “sexist man” bullshit. It’s comical.

With all of that, I am so confused You will be for awhile. Allow it because it’s normal. Because I do still love her This might be some of the confusion you speak of. If you’re (sounds like) in a community property state, and assuming you’re the high earner expect about 40-45% until you retire. Then your numbers are different and you have a valid change in conditions. Learn the judges and you also have to pre calculate/ ballpark attorneys fees and weigh that in against potential gains or losses as well. It’s a marathon, not a race.

It happens my friend. Absolutely do not sweat this. Not necessarily due to the first post divorce but just bad “chemistry” if you will. As you date more you’ll find out there are many more women you’ll bond better with. You’ll figure out in advance how to see/choose who you’ll work well with. I’ve had more, and better experiences with hotter women post divorce these past 11 years, than when I was younger, thru HS, 20s-30s etc. Head high and move forward…..

What you’re describing, the transition of where she’s all “in” , to all out over the few months isn’t uncommon whatsoever, and certainly if there was prior trauma. I’ve found that most women will be on the best behavior for about 3-6 months, then the “act” will end. By around one year you’ll see all (good or bad) of their personality. Women tell me the same about guys so we’re all guilty. The takeaway is hopefully you’re clear of your divorce and the career challenges have been handled. You’ll d…

as long as the fees aren't ridiculous. Couple of things. In the end the total monetary cost is probably going to be ridiculous. Be mentally prepped for this. The main post is good generic wisdom for the process itself IMO, but certainly the timing of the stages is far different if the husband was the filer. That said, if she just acts recklessly knowing a divorce is coming then a judge likely will take that into account on the asset split This happened in my situation (Calif). Ex then tried to argue that she could add it to her living expenses and needed more spousal from me. Caught the right judge on the right day and it was all disregarded in a matter of seconds.

Online has its advantages. It’s best utilized as a tool to simply go meet someone in person that you’d possibly want to invite on a real date. Get beyond that , such as message too long, get impatient or emotional about it….you’ll fail. As far as considering yourself “average”, that’s on you to improve yourself to the extent and mindset that you make the choices. Regardless of where/ how you’re meeting.

You’ve probably got this figured out , but moving fw be very careful what you say to mutual while married “friends”. The hubby’s inevitability tell all to their wives, then it will go straight to your ex like, right now. Secondly - if she’s submitting texts with (as I understand it) her friend instructing her how to fabricate a false RO against you- this is low gene pool stupidity, and I’d wager it will end very well for you- again assuming I read it all correctly . But, you have to look ahead because that is what you have control over. You should look at the hotels experience as a “born again” or re boot. So as a failure ? Nah. Bullshit. I’ve been divorced 11 plus years as well as a few of my friends and co workers. Still have a wide mix of a social life of both married couples and single people as well as a couple of very solid dudes I’ve known since HS. Regardless of whatever your Mom said in 5th grade, you’ll lose “friends” in a divorce (such as the type you describe) and maintain and gain others. Your level of bitterness will determine how that all goes.
