It's easily debatable. By your logic gay marriage would still be illegal, along with a myriad of other things. Laws change, it has nothing to do with how I feel about the defendant. It has to do with how I feel about the punishment not being equal in terms of the damage dealt to the victim's life. There's not enough punishment for damage dealt. Hence I feel there is room for improvement in the way the cases are prosecuted specifically the sentence.

Where are you getting an idea that there's a double standard? In most jurisdictions its a misdemeanor This is the crux of the argument. The argument is that falsifying a rape report (or any other report) should be considered more serious than a misdemeanor. It should be a felony charge with a criminal sentence similar to the sentence that the accused would receive.

Making a false rape claim isn't perjury. They may perjure themself down the line (like in this case), but the claim itself isn't perjury. They can potentially be charged with false statements or false reporting of a crime, but those charges don't have a minimum sentence. I'm not a lawyer so I'm not sure if they could be charged with anything else, but an intentional false rape claim should be more than a slap on the wrist.

I'm a week late here, but I'm curious on your mentality about this. I don't think the punishment should be the full sentence, but I do believe it should be at least around 75% of what the accused would receive. If a convicted rapist would receive 10 years, someone who intentionally falsely accuses someone of rape should receive at least 7. Does that not seem fair to you?

I just think it sucks. I kept some tabs on it, and they're basically using all his insta and twitter stuff against him. It's silly because they're obviously just played up and I think they're pretty funny. People just taking it way too seriously. It's somewhat interesting that he's getting banned because he hasn't done anything wrong.
