My ex told me I was "too independent and will struggle to find a man that will accept that".

This made me uncomfortable and it's not even aimed at me. So sorry OP.

This is insane! Stuff like this is what terrifies me about marriage. Some people just use it to get to what they want.

When someone says this to my I usually say "no, we're all beautiful unique individuals" and see how they react. If they take it then they're okay. If they get offended I "didn't take the complement" then I have my answer.

Yeah I was forced to stay home all the time and watch my brother when he was younger so they could go out or when they were at work after school/weekends. They didn't want a babysitter because he's diabetic and I know how to take care of him. I'm also 7 years older so I resented him a lot for it. Now my mum wonders why I don't stay in touch with friends from school. Probably because I never got to see them outside of school.

My male lecturer had his infant son in one of our online lectures because he and his wife were both working from home. Respect for him went way up.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
