Even though I’m in the place that I dread having to communicate with my stbx about anything, I know that in time it’ll be different.

I know! I’m still not divorced and that’s exactly how it is. “She’s such a strong woman “ I lived with said woman for years and of people only knew who and how that woman truly is…

I’ve tried speaking with her about how simple and inexpensive uncontested divorce would be if are able to reach a settlement between each other, but she wants to use a mediator. And to be honest, based on our relationship was, how current communication is, and how couples therapy was I just know that if we go through mediation it will be a waste of money and then have to get an attorney. I’ve paralyzed for extremely long and embarrassing time of separation. No action has happened. I know, I have…

Thank you for replying. Very helpful. It’s hard to feel paralyzed and worried of taking any actions like that in case it comes back to bite you. What about the money that is currently in the joint account? Cause I’ve used very minimal money. So I can definitely shift my full paycheck to go into my personal account and do as you did. I just don’t want her to think it’s basically hers simply because my paycheck has stopped coming in to the account.

Interesting, I keep hearing about these but always wondered 1-how to find them? and 2-how do you even request the service? I mean, is it like: “I’ll the #3 special” Or pointing at a diagram on their wall?

I completely feel you cause I’ve been stuck in no movement for over a year now. Tried speaking with sbxw back in April about how much more economical it would be to do no mediation, no lawyers and simply for us together write up a settlement and do uncontested but she got defensive and zero movement even though she was the one to admit there could not be option to try to rebuild the marriage SO wtf?! And the amount to retain attorneys put me deer in headlights. It’s ridiculous. I’m sorry, I didn…

Whoa! Chat GPT to help? Never heard of this Interesting Sorry to hear about the situation with the lawyer I’ve had free consultations, which usually end in a sales pitch. And I did a paid consultation as well Did get good info but the amount for their services are so high, I fell into ‘paralysis’ (not literally, but you know what I mean)

This morning I heard this: “You can either say: ‘…one day…’ or ‘…day one….’ “ So, either: “One day I’ll…..” Or “Today is day one….” I’m trying to keep myself motivated the best I can…dark days can be rather dark...but they come and go… We’ll all get through this! Let’s stay strong!

Yeah This one is asking ss# If you have credit cards A bunch of things Assets too
/r/Divorce_Men16/08/23 02:57 AM

It asks also about any other debt owed (like mortgages, etc) Did you say ‘yes’ and noted the monthly payment amount too? If I do then does that mean I also need to list the house in the part it asks about assets? I’m sorry, this whole thing is such an exhausting process Thanks in advance
/r/Divorce_Men16/08/23 01:05 AM
1

Thank you It also asks if I have any: assets (savings & investments) If I click ‘yes’ it asks for more detail info (name, amount, etc) So am I to go into those details too? Meaning, list the house and estimated value of it?

I appreciate your detailed response. This whole process can induce paralysis. Very helpful information. Do you have any suggestions in regards to the banking? I’m not trying to cut off financially at all; it’s just that we only have a joint account. I recently opened my own separate account but haven’t changed my direct deposit to it yet worried on how it may impact me negatively during the process but I’m worried my stbex utilizing the funds (for example: she used half of our savings to payoff …

How were you able to get an apartment? I’m having the worst time finding one or qualifying because I’m listed on the house mortgage, which they calculate in to see if you qualify for the rental

Dumb knee jerk reaction We already had been sleeping in separate bedrooms for 9 months, we were doing couples counseling, and one day I got upset about something and stupidly left but continued showing up for couples therapy and then, a month after I left the stbex rage quit the couples therapy accusing the therapist of taking sides the therapist was shocked and confused when she did it I said, yup, that’s what I have been dealing with. So I talked to stbex saying “this is not sustainable, I nee…

Amen This is ridiculous It’s a scam Tbh I made the mistake of leaving out of knee jerk reaction Been separated a year Two kids 1 - Lawyers are expensive af. 2 - Mediation could extend adding up expenses and if no resolution then would need to get lawyers involved (see #1) 3 - The fact that I’m listed on the house mortgage affects my chances on qualifying for rentals on apartments. Explained we need to sell or she can refinance (and buy me out) but it needs to happen already…she got overwhelmed a…

Ugh I’m so sorry to hear this. Also sorry to hear your kids having to experience that abuse. But yeah, It’s terrifying how the system can really punish the man financially. Makes sense. I mean, I did get some good info, especially on my second free consult, since I came in with more specific questions but still. I may try it again
/r/Divorce_Men19/04/23 07:45 PM

That’s what I want to simply reach an agreement and do uncontested and be done but I think/fear it might be best to be ready with an attorney I’m sitting with it for the moment trying to calm my mind down to be in a clear and focused mindset I appreciate your attention
/r/Divorce_Men19/04/23 07:26 PM
2

I know! It’s terrifying! 😵
/r/Divorce_Men19/04/23 07:22 PM
6

Thank you, I’m just terrified how costly it all can get, but I guess it’s the best option to go for… I’m ok regarding divorcing but hate all this legality bs…and genuinely worried getting screwed by a possibly biased system..
/r/Divorce_Men19/04/23 07:15 PM
2

I’ve done some free consultations before but I noticed the info provided is a bit generic somewhat and towards the end it becomes a sort of “sales pitch”. If that makes sense It feels that even mediation can also add up ($$) and if we reach a point of not coming to an agreement we would then still will need to escalate to lawyers ($$$$). 🤢🤮
/r/Divorce_Men19/04/23 07:07 PM
9

And they’ll try and presented as a “cute” thing to do. Fffuck that!
/r/Divorce_Men17/04/23 07:26 PM
3

Well I feel it should be simple as well but I’m concerned she will not be logical. Just want to go ahead and simply do uncontested and save any additional bills dealing with lawyers or mediators but something tells me she won’t understand 😑

Awesome Was what you initially offered as settlement something you came up with by yourself as something fair or did you have someone help you come up with the offer?

I’m in the middle of this too Was the mediator the one who calculated for you what amount you’re legally obligated to provide her monthly?
/r/Divorce_Men18/03/23 12:47 PM
1

Right?!
/r/Divorce_Men14/03/23 12:54 PM
2

Not only that but I found out that if you go to rent an apartment and you’re listed in the deed/mortgage of the house you live with the wife then they take that monthly payment and add it to their rental payment to calculate if you qualify to rent said apartment based on your monthly income…yeah…I learned that recently. Or at least that was my experience a few weeks ago

I know, but if one makes the mistake of leaving the house as a knee jerk reaction then what?
/r/Divorce_Men01/02/23 07:55 PM
1

I’m simply in separation process at all he moment and went to see about renting an apartment and the woman view my w-2 and paystub and asked if I was listed in the mortgage of the house, which I am, and she said “well, I don’t your application would pass because we need to take into account your mortgage payment plus the rent” I’m freaking out cause if that’s the case what am I supposed to do?

Oh man, thank you for sharing this with me. Yea, I have to admit that it’s a scary situation when it hit me as “holy shit this is NOT ok or normal in any way” and then they continue afterwards like nothing happened and you’re left like “am I making this shit up? Am I making this more than it actually is?” Terrifying But all this replies and support and on talking to my therapist it has made more and more validating for me
