Still doesn't make sense. Maybe this language means something and makes sense to Australians, but as an American it seems just a horrible choice of words. Let's go with a bit more realistic scenario: Would you make the same argument with having your tonsils and appendix removed right at birth? I don't think circumcision has any real downsides for the vast majority of those who receive it. They are still able to enjoy sex, sexually reproduce, and it's reduced maintenance. Now if we were talking about doing away with parts that affected sexual and reproductive functionality, I'd be totally on board with banning such practices.

Well Islam advocates for circumcision, so you're not going to find any support here in this sub. I'm in Surah 21, and already I've learned that Islam does not support Men's Rights, they support believer's rights only. The Qur'an suggests that believers at least disassociate from non-believers, and there are several verses that suggest hostility toward non-believers. Men being hostile towards other men does not form the unity that we're after.

But why go through that at such an older age? This way, little man doesn't remember any of it, and in the end it's beneficial to him. Nope, as a parent it's my job to make decisions for his best interests. Should I ask my newborn if he needs his diaper changed and wait for him to reply before I do it? Should I ask him if I should start a college fund or just wait for him to make that choice? It's a parent's job to make decisions, not to laissez faire a kid's life into detriment. I decided to have my son circumcised. Not necessarily for religious reasons, but for hygienic and aesthetic reasons. I had a chat with the performing doctor before hand, and asked that she ensure that it was not tight. She did a wonderful job and after the horror of the first week it looks really good. I'm not understanding the big issue here.
