Because men can no longer depend on the identity of father and husband as a source of meaning and purposeful fulfillment. Those identities no longer have security, longevity, agency, or dignity. It is then the more responsible thing to develop a concept of success not connected to those concepts of self, and that is not something one can determine while in a relationship.
