Id bet good money that any of the bunch would rather date a doctor than a cashier at a grocery store. It's not just "status". Doctor is more likely to be financially stable, has shown they have specific interests that they are willing to commit to, and is likely an interesting person at the very least. The only reason you might see it "work" is the same reason people use the tactic, abuse puts people in tough positions mentally, and they don't always get away from it. As for the career, why would you NOT want to date someone proud of their career. I'm proud of my career, and like to share it with people. Why is that all about status?
