I'm also pretty inexperienced, so take this with a grain of salt, but I don't think dinner dates are bad at all. If you don't know a person at all, I'd prefer coffee (easy to leave quickly), and if you know a person pretty well, I'd do an actual activity, but in-between I think dinner is a good way to converse and get an idea of the person. Two things I would try on your next dinner date: 1) Don't sit across. It's better if you can sit closer to her (so that you're on adjacent sides of the table…

Agreed 100%. It's not the MRA viewpoint that it is only women who enforce strict gender roles on men, so there is no reason to downvote someone who points out how men also contribute.

Feminism takes as a premise that women are an oppressed minority and men are a privileged majority. It's about women first.

Let me make sure I understand your argument; I don't want to be fighting straw men. You're saying that culture/biology gives men certain traits, these traits make men better economic producers, being a better economic producer makes society value men more than women, and having society value men more than women makes men a privileged class?

What makes you think men don't have the majority share of influence in the world today? Hell, just look at the course of Western history throughout the past 2000 years. Plenty of evidence there, too. There's a difference between "men are the people in power" and "the people in power are men". Men make up the most powerful people in our society in terms of wealth and politics, but men also make up the least powerful people. But the least powerful vastly outnumber the most powerful. Also, I'm focu…

I agree with everything here except for that last sentence. Nearly every form of feminism believes that males are a privileged class and that women are a minority group. This premise influences the rest of feminist thinking.

I am not. He said that men are privileged because of instances where men are advantaged by things like "the income disparity between men and women". I countered by pointing out areas of society where women are advantaged. If men and women have different advantages in society, it's dishonest to focus only on the advantages of men in order to show that men are a privileged class.

you will, operhaps, retort that women have it better than men, in which case I would ask what metric you use to define "better". if wealth, then men unequivocally are at the head of the pack. This is where you're wrong. I do not claim that women have it better than men, and I do not claim that men have it better than women. I do not think it is something we can easily know, and I do not think it is important. A common feminist position is that males are a privileged class, as opposed to women, w…

no, it doesn't; it comes from things like the results of studies that show the income disparity between men and women. noting that black people have the short end of the stick when it comes to interactions with police officers does not make one a honkey-hater What about the studies that show the suicide rate, the homeless rate, the incarceration rate, and the murder rate?

Don't be a silly goose, feminism is all about closing the gap between those born into privilege and those that get the shit end of the stick. The view that men are privileged while women are not stems from traditional gender roles, where men are expected to man up and deal with their own problems, while coddling women for any issue they might have. It's misandric.

As a man, I completely disagree.

This perspective that women are oppressed and males are privileged is really rooted in traditional gender ideas--women need to be helped and protected, men don't. This is part of the reason that the idea is so tempting to a lot of feminists.

Exactly. Feminists think that their ability to explain anything as a result of misogyny and the patriarchy is a strength of their ideology, but in reality it's a weakness. Everything that explains anything explains nothing. It can make no predictions. It can face no tests. A great example of this is the idea that patriarchy hurts men too. Look at how great feminism is; it explains all of men's issues as well. But wait: would feminism be hindered at all if patriarchy didn't hurt men, or would tha…

Because I wanted to see what it was like. I actually noticed that a lot of the posters there were open minded to mainstream MRA ideas (at least, as long as they weren't labelled as MRA)--after all, my post was 13-2. I figured that as long as a "feminist perspective" meant "a perspective that values equal rights", then that was a completely acceptable rule. Apparently it doesn't mean that (even though the FAQ says it does).

http://i.imgur.com/XvxaUdd.jpg (deleted) then http://i.imgur.com/aCs74Zj.jpg Still no reply. Feminism just means "equal rights", but if you look at anything from a viewpoint other than "women are oppressed by and are the victims of everything" then that's not a "feminist perspective". Interesting. If only more feminists actually were equity feminists...

If men and boys are to be included, care must be taken to ensure that their data are accurate counterparts of rape prevalence among women. This means that men must be reporting instances where they experienced penetration of their own bodies (or attempts). let's try this... What exactly is the issue here? Men's Rights does not mean women don't have issues, and it does not mean nobody can decide they want to focus on women's issues, just as MR focuses on men's issues, and as environmentalists focus on environmental issues.

I'm gay. I'd like to think that if I was in this situation, I would cover my boyfriend. Why? Because I'm bigger than him, stronger than him, I think I have a better chance of taking a shot and living, and I love him. Would he do the same for me? Maybe, but I sure as hell wouldn't let him push me off. Is that male disposability? Do I have shit for brains?

You didn't insult William Bennett. You insulted men who made the ultimate sacrifice out of pure love, and you insulted them because they did so. Fuck you.

What the fuck I understand that you may disagree with William Bennett that men shouldn't be expected to sacrifice themselves for women, but to insult the men themselves? It was an incredibly selfless, loving act. You obviously don't have a heart, but don't shit on those that do.
