You wouldn't hire a committee of diverse people to fix an airplane, why would you hire them to determine someone's future. Judging a complicated case is hard, and details as important as they are easily overlooked.

A jury is way more susceptible to manipulation. So it will be less about fairness and judging according to the law, and more about having the best (more expensive) lawyer. Boring facts wont win sympathy, an good (and even in relevant) story will. A judge is a trained professional to see the trees true the forest.

Why would a jury be better in complex situations than a judge?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
