2	Women are twice as likely as men to abuse children Although anecdotal, it may be from two factors. Firstly non-fathers are less likely to form a paternal bond with another man’s child and as such may not act as a protector of the child if he observes abuse and secondly single mothers are more likely to neglect their own child to maintain a relationship out of fear of loosing their only perceived form of support.
