Although it was not the only reason, the knowledge that some women can do things like this, contributed to my decision to stop with trying to get custody of my children during my divorce from their mother. Although anecdotal, it may be from two factors. Firstly non-fathers are less likely to form a paternal bond with another man’s child and as such may not act as a protector of the child if he observes abuse and secondly single mothers are more likely to neglect their own child to maintain a relationship out of fear of loosing their only perceived form of support.
