1	About to leave to study abroad, any advice? Study Abroad is American English. In England and Ireland, I heard it referred to an an exchange year. I've only known one Canadian exchange student and he referred to it as an exchange. I've only heard Americans refer to it as study abroad. I haven't spent a huge amount of time in France except Paris and the Pyrenees. I've attended the Paris Airshow for close 20 years. That's touristy with delegations from all over the world. 3	About to leave to study abroad, any advice? Based on your use of the term "study abroad", I presume you're American. Studying a language for four years does not even vaguely get you to fluency. Practice the language at every opportunity. This alone will give you the opportunity to meet lots of people and make lots of friends. Take every opportunity to travel, meet new people and expose yourself to new situations. I've lived in Europe for 9 years and traveled the African continent for 4 years.
