Ignoring the truth doesn't mean it's not relevant and doesn't have an effect. You're right, we can't just ignore aspects of the argument. My aim was to isolate the biological and evolutionary reasons behind it. However, one can argue that the semantics, the legal repercussions and the fine details DO matter because they themselves have been created by people. Whereas women do seem to get really hurt by the loss of power. This could be it, and it's got me thinking from a new perspective. Thank yo…

I have a potentially offensive idea I want to debate. Is the rape of women objectively worse than male rape in terms of effect on the victim? My proposition is that the male contribution to sex is sperm, which can be produced often and without much fuss. A female contribution is 9 months of pregnancy followed by years of raising a child. Now, if we disregard all the legal aspects of child support payments and financial ruin, the male has much less to lose in this situation. I have no opinion as …

Great post. I followed the link to her blog and read a fair few of her posts, not just the one you referenced. I think I've finally hit the next level in understanding, which became apparent in the observations I made on her blog. The way she writes is with constant justification for her life choices. She makes comments like "the relationship was over before it really started" to attempt to negate any wrongdoing on her part when she became attracted to another guy while in a relationship. She ju…

A fascinating analysis. You point out a now obvious fallacy around labelling people as introverted, in that the scale from extrovert to introvert is not linear.

This just points out the inherent bias we all know exists in /r/relationships, /r/sex and all similar subreddits. The woman is always innocent and the victim, the man is always oppressive or overreacting when he does have a problem. The best example was of course a few days ago in r/relationships where a girl posted a story about her emotionally abusive boyfriend. The boyfriend then showed up hours later in a post of his own setting the record straight. Interestingly, many commentators admitted …

communist factors (eg: universal access to free basic medical care I think that is Socialism, not communism. I had an epiphany the other day, as a person NOT living in the USA. I watch Breaking Bad, and I have come to realise that the entire premise of the show can only happen in America. In any other country Walter would not have the same concerns over money because healthcare is taken care of. You guys live in a weird bubble where you don't realise there is a different way. It's not a leftoid …

In my opinion Larry Summers is NOT the best person for the job. This is based on his economic policies, not his gender. Yellen may be the right person for the job, not because she is a woman, but because she is qualified. The problem, obviously, is that people are arguing gender rather than merit. I want to make it clear, that if I support any candidate for any role it is because of their qualifications and skills.

On reflection, maybe it's not even a beta/alpha argument. Maybe it's just "don't be a dick at work".

To answer the title question: I personally behave more beta at work and in professional settings. I am assertive in ways that help my career, but non-confrontational when I come across situations that would usually warrant alpha mentalities. An example would be woman at work that never get called out on their bullshit. It honestly works better for me to just stay out of it. It's not worth the risk. It's just the way things are at the moment.

I was pleasantly surprised by most of the comments too. There are the expected replies such as this, but what pleases me are the male responses which reflect the idea of "Just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you are correct".

They're not keeping a tally of points. It's just a figure of speech. If you're really concerned, throw it back at them. Begin judging her verbally with "you get a point for this". Watch her start to qualify herself more and more, trying to earn your approval.

From her first post hey, wait, i actually want prince charming. not some dick. And from her next post maybe i just want that "nice guy" who has emotions...i wonder if shock therapy can fix this in my current bf Conclusion: Actions speak louder than words.

Not my current goal, but perhaps in the future. I'm not unsatisfied, my career right now is wonderful and fulfilling.

Yes, I do it because I enjoy it. It's a boys club mostly, so on top of doing interesting work it's great for socialising with other guys. We have a weekly Whisky Club, play games after work on the big projector, talk about and share common interests and hobbies.

So..what does TRP do? I am a video game programmer. I can confirm anecdotally that people who do this job are generally beta, or at most MGTOW. The pay is low. I could get double my salary, with my skillset, programming outside of games.

You're being far too reactive. Don't take this as an insult, this is genuine advice. Being reactive means you are influenced by others too easily. Also, you can call people out on their shit without sounding like a dick. Be diplomatic. Be a leader. Be conscientious. People will respect you more if you're not puffing out your chest, calling everyone a faggot.

I just read through the top comments. There was a conversation about girls being disadvantaged for being attractive. Things like people not taking them seriously, being graded lower, not being given the same opportunities as others. Is there a phrase or name for jumping to conclusions like this? Is it possible that these girls think higher of themselves than the reality, and assume any shortcomings are because people are keeping them down rather than them failing? I know of the Dunning Kruger ef…

I feel like this should be the message. Self reflection, improvement, and making progress. My honest opinion, perhaps to my detriment, is that we shouldn't be cruel to others who show these same weaknesses. I want to learn from others mistakes, not revel in them. I want to be better, that's why i'm here. I can look at these examples and clearly identify my own problems. I don't want to tear other people down. Being mean is no my goal.

I think it says a lot about these women that the act of just discussing male issues is sexist.

What I said seems pretty ignorant after reading your reply. I guess it does seem like a great way for people to meet outside of the bar scene. Any negativity I have towards it is sure to come from unfamiliarity. I shouldn't be so hasty to judge.

This may just be my stupid assumption, but aren't dating sites essentially a haven for sub par girls? If they were high value, they would be meeting guys in real life, right? Also, is online dating an option for someone younger? I'm 22. I can't imagine any decent girls my age or younger would even be on there.

I did miss that nuance. Anyway, the whole situation really could have been avoided in the first place by him not marrying someone he didn't love.

Please have compassion. This sounds like a situation between two people who have legitimate issues, whether it be depression due to loss of a loved one, intimacy issues, or other mental health issues. And anyway, this looks like a case of NAWALT - http://np.reddit.com/r/relationships/comments/1fb0bg/update_i_told_my_wife_i_loved_her/

My honest gut feeling about this: I feel like this undermines my efforts in the tech field. This is a meritocracy, where talent and hard work are the important factors. This article makes it out as if woman need higher test results at university, more work experience, better references to get a job. Fuck giving a job to someone who scores lower than me. If you're smart, we want to hire you. If not, don't blame it on being a woman and take your failure like a man.

In order for women to be in power positions, they need to actually pursue them. There is no man standing at the door checking for penises before he'll let someone in. I work in a tech company. It is a meritocracy. People are hired because they are talented, passionate and hard working. The gender bias exists at an education level more than likely, as the field I studied in was 90%+ male. So a great majority of applicants to our company are men. We can't force a 50/50 gender balance because the n…
