I really feel for you and 100% agree that 23 is a miserable age. I’m sure it’s not for some people, but it definitely was for me and my friends in my generation (I am 30 now). I was very insecure and also tried very hard to mask how insecure I was. The years after I left college (ages 21-23) I was super depressed, existentially confused, financially dependent on my parents, and because of this I viewed friends as people to commiserate with and romantic partners as a way out of the misery. My cli…

If someone is sad they don’t have visible abs, it’s the aura of sadness and lack of confidence they give off that is unattractive, not the lack of visible abs.

I’ve mostly seen people on here say that “not all women are the same” in response to posts that assert that all women, because of their female brains or whatever, have some form of narcissistic personality disorder. If you’re talking to someone who is stuck in these extreme dehumanizing thought patterns, I think it makes sense to point out that women are not a monolith. As for what is conventionally attractive, I feel like this is an aura you give off when you’ve worked on your shit to the point…

You’re right. I was being a bit tongue in cheek with that response. I wrote you a more measured response below.

So here’s the thing, the behavior you’re describing—preying on, lying to, and manipulating other people for one’s personal gain—that’s narcissistic personality disorder. If it takes a sadistic turn, and causing other people pain brings them pleasure, that’s sociopathy. Women are not inherently narcissistic or sociopathic, and neither are men. It sounds like you might believe deep down that women are inherently narcissistic and/or sociopathic, perhaps due to traumatic experiences you’ve had with …

You attract what you put out there. If you hate women who go after assholes, then don’t be an asshole and those women won’t come after you.

Replace every instance of “women” in this comment with “people.”

Screaming and throwing objects in response to emotional stimuli is the behavior of a toddler, whose brain lacks linguistic sophistication, lacks fully developed empathy, and lacks the ability regulate his or her emotions. This is NOT normal behavior for an adult human, male or female. It IS normal for men and women to dislike this behavior in other humans.

I disagree with people who say that you've been rewarding him for bad behavior. He isn't a dog or a toddler that's just learning how to behave around other people. He is an adult man who is responsible for his own behavior and from what you've written, it sounds like he is mentally and emotionally abusing you. Abuse is never the fault or the person who is being abused, nor is it your right or responsibility to "train" him. You need to fight for your own mental health and the only way to do that,…

Are you in school with these “friends” of yours? I’d ditch them if I were you. They don’t treat you very well and I think it would be good for your self esteem to surround yourself with people (friends and romantic partners) who are rooting for your success and wellbeing.

What kind of advice are you looking for? Just my take on the situation from reading your post: It sounds like your ex was extremely emotionally abusive and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the gaslighting she was doing to you is still causing damage to your mental health. It’s understandable that you would seek “answers” to why someone would abuse you but in my experience, abuse isn’t really a gendered thing and I think you’d benefit way more from some one-on-one therapy with a professional th…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
