This absolutely does not validate your post or change the fact that you posted something that was likely fake.

The mods being radical in that sub in no way makes this post any more or less real. That's not how facts work. That's literally just the mods having opinions. This post is likely still bait/trolling/not real.

You can believe whatever you want dude, it doesn't change the fact that you (re)posted something that likely wasn't even real. That's extremely negligent and delegitimizes the reality of this issue that men can face.

I already looked at the sub to find this post in context but it looks like it was deleted. It's really negligent for you to post something like this, straight up. You can talk about how it's a troll post or fake in the comments but many of the people upvoting this and seeing it on the front page of this sub aren't going to see this dialogue. It'll just confirm and reinforce their already preconceived views without any actual reason to back it up. False rape accusations are horrible and damaging …

Kinda suspect that the post shows in your image that it was posted a minute before this image was taken.

I was told it occasionally growing up but mostly when I was very young, then it seemed to be more guys making fun of each other if they cried. Now that I'm an adult I see more often older adults or other guys who say they're not gonna cry and reinforce it to themselves or say it out loud because other men are around.

How is Bojack's writing fucked up? I really enjoyed it, even up to the latest season. I know Diane is pretty feminist but that's her whole shtick.

This is the essence of what people consider to be toxic masculinity though, the boxes that men are put into that negatively effect them. Women can perpetuate toxic masculinity by telling men stuff like you mentioned.

they just expect people to accept it as unassailable truth without needing any facts. No they don't. They literally ask the reader to evaluate if this is reflective of their society right underneath it.

The comment has no reaction included in the image. It literally is just a comment, no upvotes, not agreeing comments. I could post the exact same comment on any sub, swap the sexes, and immediately delete the comment. It would be as valid as this image is. It’s also not clear what that March is for, the words say that that’s what it’s for but there’s no evidence to back it up. This is just an echo chamber of philosophy supporting itself with what seems like evidence but could easily be made up s…

No one would claim this is toxic masculinity. This is what people who talk about toxic masculinity are in support of and are advocating for.

I can't believe an image comparing a march to a single comment has 70+ people in agreement, as if they're comparable things. It's like if you showed a march in support of civil rights and then a comment talking about white people not facing discrimination or something, and then made a post that claimed that society wasn't sympathetic to white people. Do you not see how this is just selecting stuff in favor of your views?

I mean I never said any of that but you can feel free to hear what you want to hear in what I said. You added a narrative to this article about gender discrimination against men that wasn't necessary.

The title of this post is so unnecessarily reactionary, you can praise something for going against male discrimination while not pressing your views about feminism. The word feminism isn't even used in the article! Yet it's included when being posted to a sub about men's rights? Do you see how backward that seems?

I do think this is an important concept because men can fall down the same rabbit hole of unhealthy exercise and eating habits trying to chase the image of a man that they've been sold. Not everyone can be the Rock, and this does seem to have a stronger hold in media towards men than for women. It's important to note here that I said unhealthy exercise, because exercise itself is generally healthy.

I do agree with most of the points here. Suicide is an epidemic for men and really does need to be given more attention. I have to say though, in the study that you cite they specifically mention the exact point that you're criticizing them for and how self-harm with intent but without suicidal intent likely inflated those numbers. It's in the Limitations section. They also talk about how it can be unreported. It really is specifically a problem with reporting data and classification of what dic…

Certain men not being able to vote based on land ownership is not discrimination based on sex, but discrimination based on class. I’m surprised you can pull up from memory a specific pre-revolutionary rebellion, but can’t see the difference between sexism and classism. Women were actively legislated out of the right to vote by individual states, that is not feminist revisionism. This is literally the entire point of the amendment he is referencing in this tweet.

Men as an entire group have not been discriminated against by any specific legislation concerning the right to vote. When people are discriminated against for what they own, that’s discrimination based on class. You’re completely missing the point that men who are discriminated against due to their economic factors are being discriminated against not for being men, but for being poor. These are factors that are not about men as a sex. If you need property ownership to vote that has to deal with …

I absolutely have something to contribute, because I strongly believe in the concept of men’s rights but this sub seems very focused on anti-feminism rhetoric. There’s really no need for that. There’s no need for men’s rights to be in opposition to feminism. So I’m gonna call it out when something like this tweet is posted which is just reactionary nonsense. Talking about women’s rights and then reacting with “what about men’s rights?” is absolutely not helpful. My points not fitting with the ec…

Again, not discrimination based on sex. This is discrimination based on class (and I guess on military service? I don't know if I'd call that part discrimination).

"equal"
/r/MensRights27/08/19 12:26 AM

You're just changing the meaning of the word now based on your belief. Equal rights means equal rights, not other groups having more rights than others. If you want to believe that's "code" for something else then that's on you, but that's a belief you're choosing to take up and prescribe to these terms. Either way it still does not take away from your rights, because that's not how math works. if you have 6 rights and the other group has 6 rights, and they get treated preferentially and get an …

Women have absolutely been denied the right to vote, and it was not originally written in the constitution whether or not they could so they were legislated out of the right to vote based on their sex. As in they lost their right to vote later on because it was not explicitly included. This has never happened to men on the basis of their sex, men not being able to vote based on their lack of land ownership is a form of discrimination that effects men but it is not on the basis of their sex, it i…

Women and men can both have different disadvantages in rights on the basis of their sex. Men's rights are about the rights of men. Women's rights are about the rights of women. It's not that complicated, and they don't need to be in opposition. Giving someone equal rights does not take away from your rights.

It is really something I believe because it is true. Men have not been denied the right to vote on the basis of their sex in the United States.
/r/MensRights26/08/19 10:44 PM

No, because it's about women having rights that are equal to the rights that men have. It's about women's rights. You're assuming there's an inverse relationship here where there's not.

It's not relevant to men's rights because men have always had the right to vote on the basis of their sex. This has nothing to do with the rights of men, he is specifically talking about the rights of women and being treated as equals to men. It is about women, not men.

What do you specifically mean by this, and do you have any evidence to back this statement up? Also if this statement is true, then that just means that men need more funding and information about women does not need to be included in that conversation.

This tweet has nothing to do with men's rights.

There's no need to make the issue of suicide a measuring stick between the sexes. We can uplift and spread awareness of the very real epidemic of male depression and suicide rates without adding some antagonistic frame about it with women. There is no need to include any information about female suicide statistics in a conversation about male suicide prevention full stop.

Telling men as a group to hold other men accountable for their shitty actions is not blaming the entire gender for their actions, nor is it an overly left wing viewpoint. It's the same concept as "see something, say something" but with the behaviors that contribute to what many would call toxic masculinity. The ad is about setting an example and being a role model for younger men. I just don't understand the ideological uniformity. Because as I said before the opposing view here would really jus…

I agree that there should be a diversity of view, but I don't really know if that's possible for this type of issue. The other narrative would be "do worse as a man and harass women" based off of the video. why has this tendency become so much more overt over the last decade or two? I don't really know but I think it has to do with a growing antagonism for big corporations and capitalism overall. People will buy products if they think that's the greener or more ethical option. Organic produce is…

It's because people want a brand that seems ethical to them. It's the concept of ethical capitalism, "buy our brand because we're people and on the right side of society". They would chose to lecture their customers about this because they have such an opportunity and voice to do that. If the majority of your customers are male then you have a broad reach, and the fact that we're talking about it now means that it was effective in at least reaching a lot of people.

She explicitly starts the video with the context of "men's rights vs women's rights" because she's talking mainly about men as a gender. So while she acknowledges that men face many oppressors including their own gender, things like class or race would be out of that equation if that makes sense. She's specifically touching on the point of how masculinity is in a sort of purgatory in the wake of all these other movements going on. And she even mentions how someone who doesn't have a sense of pur…

The video essentially talks about what issues men are facing as a gender and why there has been a growing amount of men's rights activists in the recent few years mainly from 2016 onwards. She then goes onto talk about how victimhood is in vogue right now and where men are cast in this modern discourse about different things. This is important because with all these rising social issues, what about men, right? And how that leads to a sort of clash between opression of men and opression of women …

There's absolutely content in this video. There's plenty of purpose to this video, even though the main conclusion isn't a solution to the problem that we're facing in terms of masculinity and role models. A video does not have to solve the problem it mentions or even have to mention a problem to contain content. Not every dialogue about an issue has to be all encompassing and completely solve the issue. The first step to solving any issue is acknowledging that it exists as a baseline. Also comp…

People may experience this without being explicitly aware of it, that it is a common thing, or that their behaviors might be caused due to a lack of purpose. Many people don't think about the background going inside them that might color their actions. I'm not sure what better route there could have been here, she's both respecting the fact that she's not going to tell men how to live while also acknowledging this issue. It's better to at least acknowledge it than try to offer the answers that s…
