Challenge Postup | CC BalanceNo, I don't want to spend money on legal fees so she has to pay. I'm spending money on legal fees REGARDLESS. So, in my mind, why not roll the dice? | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/25 03:35 AM
Challenge Postup | CC BalanceWe have two kids. Breaks my heart. But you're right. Thank you. Only dumb thing she did was buy a $50k car in my name because I got a military discount then took my name off the title. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/25 03:33 AM
Challenge Postup | CC BalanceOh I fully expect to go to mediation or trial. When lawyers account for assets and liabilities it's not going to be about legal fees per se, the basis of the claim is I accumulated let's just say $50,000 of debt over the marriage,. adding up loans (which I don't have for clarity). I would want my total debt divided as I'm in a community property state. It's not about requesting legal fees to be paid, although I understand what you're saying, this isn't a demand letter. This is an assumption we g… | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/25 03:23 AM
Challenge Postup | CC BalanceGood knowledge. Thought provoking content. I haven't retained a lawyer yet.. I had two consultations this week. I will retain one next week. Just off the top, I'm not concerned about $30k in CC debt. If after a year we haven't settled, well then I'll pay it off. I'm not paying APR. I just didn't know if it was even plausible I could attribute debt to my cheating spouse who earns more income. That's not an emotional decision, it's strategic, either I pay for some of it or all of it. If there's a … | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/25 03:17 AM
Challenge Postup | CC BalanceI fully expect this. However, I want to underscore, I'm not excessively.spending. I would pay this amount anyway, just hoping to keep the debt on the books, and pray she'll be liable for a portion in a common property state. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/25 02:27 AM
Challenge Postup | CC BalanceBrother, you're missing the point... Or maybe I'm daft? I can pay off the $25,000 retainer myself. But if I can keep the liability on my balance sheet and it's ruled community property (shared debt) then I feel I'd have a slight upper hand to have her pay off some of the legal fees I accrue and have left as a liability. I feel like if I pay it off, it'd be less likely to be split. But I don't know, that's the question I'm asking. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/25 02:13 AM
Challenge Postup | CC BalanceInsightful comment. Thank you..We didn't do anything asset/liability sheet for the post nup. She bought a $50k BMW with cash. We separately invested in our retirement accounts. After taxes She probably netted $400k And I better $275k Money into separate checking accounts and retirement accounts I took out a $25,000 loan because I was able to secure a super low interest rate and make more money having it in a CD. It's a liability I pay monthly. I don't think she got any new debt. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/25 01:41 AM
