I think what MetalDevils said is good. They're asking you to be honest with yourself and accept that some working conditions are less than ideal and that is just reality. People at work won't agree/like/see things your way some-to-most of the time anyway. Organizational Behavior is a subject to look into if you want to study behaviors and the psychology of the workplace. There are a lot of good books out on this subject, and there is nothing more I recommend to someone just starting out in their…

College/grad school will have the best concentration of men in one place you will want to date. I recommend student organizations or professional organizations that have chapters at your school.

I grew up in a narcissistic household, so I consider myself pretty versed in this stuff. Agree with the comment that the memories of behavior are more telling than the online test, but I can't help but point out how important the test was in helping you put your finger on something you couldn't for so long. People close to narcissists usually have realizations like this in "Ah-ha!" lightbulb-going-off moments, and then they can't un-see it. Don't do anything drastic right away. Create a running …

I think you are in denial that they are even your real friends. A real friend might not want to go to the pool, but would still go because they care about you and you asked. They would look at it as spending quality time with their friend and not just the act of going to a pool. Being fun to hang around doesn't mean they'll naturally care about you in a way that you need. It sounds like you need to reach deep inside and ask yourself your boundaries and standards for friendship. Then you need to …

I second this. Your feelings are what assisted you in deciding to break it off. Way to listen to yourself and respect those feelings. Now go experience this pain and disappointment. Cry it out. Tell yourself you are better than a relationship where someone can't contribute emotional intimacy. Set those boundaries and keep firm. Bring yourself to a higher level of self-respect. Use this experience to readjust your standards. If it were me, I would make a list of things that didn't feel right from…

All comes down to self-esteem. I need to be at the point where I truly believe I've got something to offer This is absolutely the right direction, but I would like to ask you to do something I did recently. I googled the difference between self-esteem and self-worth, and although they sound interchangeable, they can be quite different in certain aspects. What you may be referring to is self-worth, not self-esteem. For a lot of us recovering from hard and difficult pasts, it can be the bigger hol…

I understand what you are saying here. I'm about to turn 34 and I look like I'm in my mid-twenties. I still get carded about 20-25% of the time. My therapist asked me something along the lines of, "So was this your first election?" back in November of 2016. What I'm trying to say is that I empathize with your feelings regarding our 5'3 heights and youngish-looking faces. My internal dialogue is challenged especially at work. I know better than to assume people I work with treat me a certain way …

Expectations. "I'm only into open relationships." = Okay, cool, this sounds like a lifestyle choice with the potential to last an entire lifetime. I better also be into open relationships or things aren't going to run smoothly. If you and I move into a deeper relationship, there is an expectation you will still look for other partners. The idea of what to expect in the future feels openly communicated. "I am seeing other girls." = You want to date me or be a part of my life, but you don't want t…

I am not a jealous person, but I'm not immune from feeling a twinge every now and then. What has helped me in the past with other uncomfortable feelings is the following: 1 - Acknowledge the feeling 2 - Label it 3 - Ask yourself why you feel this way. Be completely 100% honest with yourself 4 - Create a new thought that's just as honest and true to yourself to start believing instead of the negative feeling. Example: My boyfriend loves my smile (or x, y, z...), and I know it makes him smile. 5 -…

Self-awareness is the first step, and you seem to have that down. Yes! Personality disorder aside because I am in no way qualified to help you there sadly, you must change your thoughts about this woman. The best way to do this is intentional, "fake it til you make it" style. Or you can write (positive, thought changing) affirmations in a journal if you mentally keep things better that way. Example: BF-brother's wife is brought up in conversation. You get a negative, visceral feeling straight aw…

Any couple that enters cohabitation with the mindset that they are making a new life together, and not trying to have the other's life fit their current life, will probably be successful. This was me and my now-husband. We lived together years before we were married, while we were still in college and later grad school. A big part of it was because, with the rise in student tuition, it financially made sense. We looked at it as a growing opportunity, and it was. He was the best roommate I've eve…

Perhaps negligence is a better way of looking at it. People willingly neglect themselves for the sake of instant gratification. Sooner or later, neglect turns into failure which turns into pain.

I invested in myself tonight with a bottle of wine from the corner store. Hey, it counts. But for real, what a refreshing reminder this is! My recent "invest-in-myself" has been a meditation class, trying out a new conditioner, and an eye exam with a brand new prescription for contacts. It's the small things.

I see a lot of women (and men) here have already given great advice in this thread. I also feel what u/thebaumer said is very accurate. I want to extend this advice a step further; this could possibly (the internet cannot diagnose NPD) be a case of abuse by narcissism. I grew-up with narcissistic parents, and a lot of your post showed signs I am all too familiar with. I often feel like expressing these ideas gets me into trouble, or that I am not allow to express concern with an idea or suggest …

I was attractive in high school, but social situations were challenging for me. My mother was not very kind to me growing up and I saw the world through a distorted lens because of it. Alas, getting dates was not challenging for me, and I found myself in a small string of LTRs (averaging 2 yrs.) with small breaks in between. I had 2 LTRs in high school and 3 in college. Back then I used to think guys and girls could be friends without getting feelings involved. I usually had 1-2 orbiters during …

In fairness, the meat of your question sounds interesting despite its poor reception (got here after you deleted it), and I like discussing subconscious human behavior in relationships, especially in terms of power. For what it's worth, I think I used to do this (dress for hierarchy) when I was younger, and it had a lot to do with what wub1234 is saying, because we were trying to figure out how as women we were most "powerful." But as you mentioned, this behavior may be acted out subconsciously.…

Strictly online, I'm a fan of ModCloth's dresses and skirts (although I must admit I order from here so infrequently). Otherwise, I've been on a J. Crew kick for the last few years, and the Brooks Brothers Outlet 346 has some impressive stuff for the price. EDIT: I guess you can't get Brooks Brothers Outlet stuff online directly. However, I found one of these stores in my middle-of-nowhere-outlet-mall though!

He sounds emotionally unavailable. Emotionally unavailable men never bode well in LTRs. It's only a matter of time before you find yourself spiraling down a path of deep resentment. This could reach a point where you can't reset and the relationship is forever altered. This resentment would make breaking up more painful than it already is. You might get mad at yourself once you realize how long you were emotionally attached while he sat there deciding not to be. I've been in your shoes before. L…

Have you ever seen The Queen of Versailles? It's a documentary about the wife of a wealthy businessman and how their family reacted to the recession as they were building one of the biggest homes in the country, nicknamed Versailles. Anyway, after a decent amount of time passes in the doc, you start to have empathy for the wife because you can just tell her husband doesn't like spending any family time together, and it seemed to get worse after the recession. :( Your post reminded me of it.

OP, would it be different/better if he was asking, "How was your weekend?" If someone plainly texted me, "Hope you had a great weekend," I'd have a hard time thinking of what to say. "I hope so too?!" werid. If they asked me about my weekend or how it was, then I'd be all, "Still getting off the wine."

Medium build, muscular, taller than me but not too tall. Lighter eyes (I've never had a boyfriend with brown/black eyes, weird considering it's dominant). Flaxen hair, you know, that shade of brown that has a small tint of red to it. Must have beard. So basically Chris Pratt or Tom Hardy with a beard dressed as a lumberjack. We'll live in a log cabin and he would help me farm lavender for my lavender cookies.

I was like you when I was in my 20s. I cared about romantic gestures a lot. I wanted to be affirmed of how he felt towards me. When I got into my late 20s and early 30s, that stuff wasn't nearly as a priority as it used to be. I developed a sense of how to read between the lines. I learned how to read love by the way I was considered in everyday life actions and/or decisions.

Enjoy the company of others for what it is. Not every date will lead to marriage. Don't run away when you realize that. Enjoy your time together. Be a pleasant person. You don't have to ever see them again, but you also don't need to leave them with memories of a crazy bitch. This. I love this comment. So he didn't want to date you, and yeah, that sucks. But he is still a person in which you could have had a decent acquaintance relationship with. The kind of relationship where you say "hello" if…

You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders and I commend you for it! I didn't discover RPW until my 30s. If I could go back to my uni years and my early/mid-twenties with what I know now, I would do things completely different. For example: I would have let go of the boyfriend I entered college with because he was too beta and didn't know how to be a leader I wouldn't have dated my co-worker who was an alpha but emotionally unavailable and treated me as such (dated two years, jesus, wa…

I can tell how much you love and respect yourself by your commitment in keeping your grades and hobbies up to par. The dating pool can seem to decline drastically outside of uni, unfortunately. After college, dating men at work is usually super risky and I would not recommend it, especially if you see them every day. But a decent number of women do meet their partners at work --- the successful ones taking their precautions and gut feelings as seriously as possible, and analyzing this risk foref…

Always awesome to meet a fellow comrade on this sub! What are your thoughts on the Civil Air Patrol? If OP deemed both AD and the Reserves incompatible with her needs, I was thinking CAP could be a pretty decent, way less demanding alternative. Yes. I love military questions on this sub, mostly because this is my cup of tea, and I'm a part of a very small club that can answer your questions honestly from a female perspective. Get ready for a novel. You'll probably have more questions, which is great because I'll have more answers. Sometimes we give to others so freely and unconditionally that we forget to take care of ourselves in the various ways that exist. Slowly develop a routine that puts yourself first at certain points of the day. For foreign language, what helps me is watching kids programs on YouTube - the ones that help you develop the language, not Dora in French. Watch a handful daily, and it will seem more like a lighthearted relaxation activity vs. how we normally teach ourselves language in uni. Keep workin…

Currently I'm reading a book which heavily theorizes on the outer-critic. This may or may not relate to you. Your outer-critic is a (sometimes sub)-conscious thought pattern, attitude, or critical judgement regarding the people around you. It's a defense mechanism utilized to keep certain people away from hurting us. We utilize the outer-critic by finding faults in people people before we get to know them, and then subsequently decide they are not worth the emotional investment. I used to feel s…

I've heard of studies that show if you grow-up with a hetero-opposite-sex friend, and the relationship started before a certain age, you are highly likely to psychologically register that person as a sibling. I might be pulling this out of thin air, but it seems like it would make sense.

I am not sure the size of your current city, but have you considered buying a condo or townhome over a house with a yard? I am still living in the first place that I've purchased - it's a 1,000 sq. ft. condo. My mortgage and HOA are comparable to renting, so I understand your situation in wanting to buy; I hated throwing away rent. Female vet here. Served 6 years. My MOS was mainly logistics, but while deployed I served in a human resources capacity and dabbled in camp population metrics, mostly with the administration that deals with new units integrating within the camp. I'd say out of 100 women, perhaps 1 can really hack the infantry/front-lines lifestyle. She can pull her weight and do a decent job of fitting in with infantry culture. I've usually held the opinion that if that one woman can hack it in the multiple ways…
