She should only get money from the gains. Downpayment for the whole house amount came from money from my separate property sale.

The timing. We were paying movers by the hour and my wife kept suggesting that we sell to someone who made a lowball offer. The movers waited until this decision was made, putting me under added stress and pressure. All I had to do was just to have them move it to my parents as all the other stuff ended up, but no ... she kept it up.

That seems contradictory. Losses are all of the property sold for a loss as a married couple. Property that originally was separate property should have specific treatment.

I heard horror stories with the “keep the status quo”, esp the housewife. The wife is given possession of the house, but the husband gets nothing until the wife sells the house and then it’s 50%. The wife never sells, getting a place to live for free while the husband maintains the house.

Like leaving the garage open and ignoring that I lost my golf clubs and stuff moved from my parents’ house. Family heirlooms disappeared.

I heard horror stories about dividing up the house. The court rewards who is in possession. They decide who gets the house and WHEN it is sold. For example, they may say 50% but reward possession to her. That means she lives in your house free of charge and may never sell the house to give you 50% and to top it off, you will be paying the upkeep: property taxes, mortgage, etc. I remember a news story about a bad divorce where the man left the house but left suitcases with his name on them to sho…
