the perception that you think comes with being with a chick that's more experienced is what bothers me the most

Thank you for the very thoughtful response. I may PM you if that is ok

I am not sure I subscribe to the idea that if it's something I struggle with now, it's something I'll never get over. I do think OCD is a possibility, after doing some reflecting. I think if I actually put in the work to get healthy mentally, the relationship is worth keeping. I've been through a lot recently, lost my mom a few months ago, we faced a lot of issues on the front end of the relationship due to her lying about certain things and violating set boundaries. There are details I left out…

I also resent the statement that I'm making her sound like a pornstar. How?

If I really wanted to cast judgment, and assert I was right, I wouldn't be here asking questions. I know that I am wrong and that this is on me to get over. She's dealing with a lot, I am dealing with the loss of my mother, so neither one of us really have the bandwidth to deal with this issue in particular right now. We are both doing the work to get better, as she has issues of her own she's working through as well. I just didn't find it necessary to bring that into the conversation.

Hardly a crisis, just my insecurities talking. I think I may have OCD. Going to therapy tomorrow, for what that is worth.

Also, we're talking about something she did when she was 18-19 years old. A lot of people experiment or make choices at that age that do not reflect who they become later. It does not make sense to me to treat decisions made during early adulthood as a permanent measure of someone’s character or value. If someone held me to that same standard, I would think they were being ridiculous. I am not the same person I was as a freshman/sophomore in college.

I feel like you are generalizing here. My gf knows more than she'd like to about my past and she hates it, so much to the point that it has caused her to become insecure and compare herself to women who do not look like her, often. So I can't subscribe to the generalization that women generally prefer men with a past (I've had well below 50 partners) because I have seen the damage that it has caused. Not women that want to marry and have a stable family, anyway. Also, even if some women prefer e…

Okay great, you didn't answer the question being asked, though.

I am a dude, believe it or not. I understand what you're saying in terms of the fertility window, but I don't really feel like that's answering my question at all. What I am asking is why that difference justifies a double standard in how sexual history is judged. If a man has an extensive sexual past, on what logical basis is he entitled to a woman with little or no past? Saying women are hypergamous or that sex is harder for men to obtain does not address the fairness or consistency of that st…

Why is "past" in quotation marks though

It isn't about what she can do for me, she's done everything she can. She's rebuilt trust after violating boundaries, she's been truthful with me, etc. This is more so about what I need to do to move past all this. I understand what you are saying and agree, I am in no way asserting that I am in the right here. I know I am in the wrong, which is why I came here to address it and get advice.

Do you think a man with his own sexual history is entitled to a woman with less or no history? If the answer is yes, why? Why is a woman's sexual history and a man's sexual history not weighed the same? I can understand a man wanting to be with a virgin if he's one as well, but why are you entitled to someone with less history than you if you have a past even more extensive than hers? What does not work for me is the "lock" and "key" metaphor; don't men and women both have the same degree of age…

Believe me, that will not happen. The only think I struggle with is the narrative a lot of men subscribe to that a mans history is not weighed the same as a woman's. Women tend to not care as much about how many women a man slept with prior whereas men tend to care a lot. I'm not sure what to do with that, but it does sound appealing if I am looking for a reason to justify jumping ship. The problem is that logically does not make sense to me. The guy being a "key" and the woman being a "lock" do…

She said she knew the guy liked her, and liked her a lot. She knew she didn't want to date him because he had no ambitions. But again, how much could he have actually liked this girl if he hooked up with another girl in the middle of it all? In regards to being naive about how complex relationships are, I'd like to think I know enough about the dynamic they had to sort of gather what it was, but maybe I am wrong. I can only go off what she told me.

Seems like she had very little self respect. If I were hooking up with a girl and she tells me she hooked up with my buddy/acquaintance in the middle of it all, I would not keep hooking up with her. Was she down so bad she felt like she couldn't get anything else? Also, who keeps going back to someone if they didn't enjoy the sex and are not attracted to the guy? I don't like the idea of other men getting access to her multiple times without dating her, but I had to prove to her I didn't just wa…

It can't be my principles because I've done the exact same things. It has to be my insecurity, I don't like the idea of other men having the satisfaction of knowing they had sex with my wife and didn't do anything to get it, that she continued to hook up with this dude despite knowing her friend hooked up with him in the middle of it all, etc. I am not going to pretend like this is a values issue because my past is more extensive than hers, granted I am 3 years older.

I will definitely look into this. If we're talking about alignment, that is not even an issue in terms of who she is currently. Our values and what we want in life are completely aligned, it is just the past that I have a hard time digesting.

Also yes, she said she was afraid of being used and knew (per her friend's advice) no good relationship starts with a hookup, so she didn't want to do that with me. We did start having sex pretty soon after we started dating and I've had sex with her honestly more times than I could honestly count.

Wasn't a lover, causal hookup thing she strung along for 2-3 months. He wouldn't have been the first who did not have to jump through hoops, it's more so that she kept doing so after knowing that her friend had also had sex with him in the midst of it all and continued to sleep with him because she didn't care at the time. Said she was lonely and it was easy and knew he'd say yes, that it was not good and she was not attracted to him. The dude must have either been the man or my gf must have had…

I also sort of hate the idea of other men knowing they had sex with my wife before me. I hate that. I'm sure she hates the idea of other women having sex with me, though.

What if that's what she's telling me to make me feel more secure, though? I agree it is sad to do that with someone, especially after they disclose they hooked up with your friend in the middle of it all. Could you really do no better? That's how I've thought about it.

I agree with you. I guess there's the narrative of men thinking that even if they have multiple partners, they're entitled to a woman who has less history than them or none at all. I have friends who married women with little or no sexual history and just kind of hate that I don't have that. But again, I made the decision to sleep with multiple women so I don't feel entitled to that at all.

Probably due to the fact I know sexual details about the guy and my brain has a hard time understanding why you'd drive to hook up with someone 6-8 times over 2-3 months, knowing they hooked up with someone else in the middle of it, if you did not enjoy it.

My girlfriend and I have been together for a little over a year. We’ve had our fair share of issues, but the biggest challenge has been dealing with each other’s pasts. Early on, we shared more details than we probably should have. She has handled knowing about my past much better than I’ve handled knowing about hers. I can understand someone preferring not to date a person with a certain kind of past if they have held themselves to that same standard. What I struggle with is the idea that a man…
