This is a civil matter, don't confuse your rights to due process in the context of being accused of a crime with your due process rights with respect to this type of situation. I think part of the unfairness you perceive is that you're expecting a criminal "reasonable doubt" standard, instead of the civil "preponderance of the evidence" standard.

Except women have to be more careful about it because they have a statistically significant chance of being murdered by the abusive men in their lives. You really can't make that statement the other way: We don't get murdered by our girlfriends at anything remotely close to the rate at which we murder our girlfriends, so some extra concern for male on female abuse can be justified by the statistics.
