There are a few issues. One big one is that he doesn't actually back up when he notices he just steps to the side awkwardly. I'm no expert but basic logic tells me that to rob someone at knifepoint you need to either be strong enough to hold them still or quickly pin them against a wall with the blade so if they fight they get stabbed immediately. I'd say it comes down to the fact that high pitched voices stand out well against background sound. General background noise tends to be lower pitches in daily life, anything higher pitched would be regarded as annoying/distracting and be removed. It's also easier for small speakers to player higher pitches clearly and most devices have very small speakers. IIRC most state laws allow for two underage people to have sex.
