Ugh. Flashbacks to ppl in my life who explained their every shitty move with BPD. No, sis, I've read a dozen books on BPD to be able to understand you better, but what I understood is that you are just a bad human being who doesn't feel any remorse and doesn't even try to get better.

I don't know, I think there's no clear line here. Abusers can surely go after confident women, yes, and being confident and successful isn't a 100% defense against shitty people. Tbh I watch both "female" and "male" oriented shows (and often pretty violent ones) but it's so one sided. I can totally watch and discuss The Boys with my friends of either gender but do my male friends ever watch Crazy Ex Girlfriend with me? No.

I thought Outlander too, haven't seen it but read the book. Actually there's a scene before that that almost made me give up too (where the protagonist is beaten by her husband, the same guy who later gets tortured), and I found this "fantastic" Vanity Fair article which pretty much says it's not as bad in the show because it's told from the man's perspective and we've normalized beating through BDSM. I'm not kidding.

I've never seen it as a matter of discipline.
