So I thought we were talking about liberals here. Now I've never studied political theory, but from my layman's understanding, liberals are quite different from leftists/anticapitalists/socialists. Liberals draw from the enlightenment and from economists like John Keynes, wheras leftists draw from Marx and Engels.

My only proposal is to ban and vilify polygamy and criminalize sex outside marriage. Yes, clearly the solution is to clamp down on all lifestyles outside of my own and force everyone to live my way. I've met polygamists. Non-mormon ones, anyway. The Polyamory Community. Do you think they're all perfect 10s slutting it up with each other? Lmao no. There's plenty of people who are not conventionally attractive, and even more average joes and janes, who are finding love and getting laid.

I guess I just don't see the utility in essentializing people to such a degree. Plus, it's kind of an unfalsifiable idea, isn't it? If anyone appears to excel through training, they must have had some latent abilities.

Eh, some autistic people can still learn social cues, even if they don't understand them intuitively like anyone else. Kind of like learning a second language in adulthood versus childhood. It's inarguably easier, and you can make an argument they'll never reach that same exact level, but given enough time and dedication you can get pretty close. Seeing autistic folks I know succeed socially when, years ago, they most certainly would not, has convinced me that social skills are not that binary.

How would you help your son/nephew grow into one so he doesn't end up wasting his life on gender debate forums? Lmao I'm triggered But for realsies, it's rather uncommon to have a person who is socially competent in all areas of life besides dating, so it would logically follow that to be a "natural" requires already having good social skills. When you're young, much of this is out of your control. Some parents really nurture a child's social development (signing them up for every activity ever)…

Damn, we got some spicy ones in this thread. Here's mine: All laws regarding rape and sexual assault are sex- and gender-blind. Males can be considered victims of rape and females perpetrators under the law in places where they currently are not. To mitigate messy divorces, prenups are integrated into the legal process of marriage. i.e. Both parties agree what, if any, existing assets are considered joint, whether income earned is considered individual or joint, etc. By declaring himself the fat…

I'm not sure why, this isn't exactly new information. Very (conventionally) beautiful people can get any attention they want from their preferred sex basically on demand.

I don't get this. Your sexual competency isn't written in the stars. People can get better at sex over time, especially in the course of an LTR where, presumably, there's active communication about what people like, and exploration of new positions/techniques/kinks/etc.

Ok, let's talk about the merits. If I'm reading this right, this study seems to lump together single gays/lesbians, gays and lesbian couples that raised a child from birth or adoption, and gays/lesbians that had a kid with a heterosexual person then raised them in a same-sex household. The most honest comparison, I feel, would be to compare only gay couples who raised a child from birth or early adoption, to heterosexual couples in the same scenario (and where the heterosexuals conceieved intent…

On average, yes. But finding toxic/abusive households with married parents to make accurate comparisons to children from divorced parents is understandably tricky. We know that on average, outcomes are worse when the parents are divorced. But we also know that witnessing excessive parental conflict, or partner abuse (even when the child is not directly harmed) causes developmental harm for a child as well. All this to say, I'm not sure we have enough good statistics on the matter to say whether …

IMO the more valid response isn't "there are valid explanations for these statistical trends that make men look bad", it's that those negative statistical trends should still not inform negative behavior toward individual men. These feminists also (by and large) don't live in those places. It's much easier to affect change in a community where you actually live, have social ties you can organize around, and understand the culture enough to know how to change it.

This sounds like the same logic of artificially imposed consequences that some pro-lifers argue for. We should want child support to exist because it benefits the child to have two income streams, even if there's only one custodial parent. Not because it creates some cosmic fairness between men and women.

There's dime a dozen stories on this sub of partners with mental illness (esp. BPD, not what this man had but still) flying off the rails over the end of a relationship or even just a single disagreement. I've even told this story before in other threads about this sort of thing. It's only now when I'm assumed to be a woman (not quite true) that people seem to be reading into it.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/01/22 09:25 PM

The replies I got to this comment was an enlightening experience on how women are treated here. I've mentioned this exact story before where I mentioned - or it was clear from context - that I'm not a woman, and never received the kind of criticism/pushback I got this time. Not that it's wrong to be critical of internet strangers' anecdotes, but I find it odd that it took me being assumed to be a woman for anyone to be critical of this one.

I've volunteered for domestic violence causes, and one of the first things you hear in that space is "hurt people hurt people". He was obviously in a lot of pain, his lashing out at myself and others during and after the relationship was a part of that. I fully admit that, during that time, I wasn't as present in his life as he wanted me to be (work was really busy, big volunteer projects, etc), and that did make things harder for him. While I chose to prioritize those things over a three-month-old relationship - as I would expect of my partner to also do - I don't accept that this makes me "responsible" for his pain.

Years ago, I broke up with a man who was definitely at a mental/emotional low point. He was leaning on me a lot at that time, but was also taking out his negative feelings on myself and others in his life in ways I felt were unacceptable, so I ended it. How are we supposed to call actual transphobic people? I'd argue that there is a lot of overlap between the "I don't date trans" crowd and actual transphobic people. Even on the internet where anyone can lie about what they believe, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen these two positions voiced simultaneously: Trans women are women and trans men are men, therefore civil discrimination protections for trans people are a good thing, and; I would never date or have sex with a tran…

Starting to watch my state's gubernatorial race, and all I can say is, "good luck running against legal weed". It seems like 420 legalization is one of those things that's really hard to put back in the box once it's out. People can see that all the fearmongering didn't amount to much, and the massive boon that weed taxes bring to the public purse. Consider this. Before any legal/financial actions happen, a couple comes to the mutual consclusion that they should split up. Because of how divorce law works, one of them must initiate the legal process. These situations are counted as divorces initiated by men or by women when the decision to divorce was not an adversarial one, and by no means indicates the other person wanted the relationship to continue.

The situation might be different for shift work versus a 9-to-5, but whenever we're onboarding a new employee at my (restaurant) job, one of the first questions we ask them is, "do you have any days in your first month that you're going to need off?". People already have vacations, events, and the like planned months in advance, and I think it's reasonable for a new job to accomodate that if the employee asks for the time off up front.

This, I think, is the real difference between TRP and a typical feminist. The stuff being discussed exists in some form, the disagreement is in why it exists, whether it is good, bad, or value-neutral, how we should engage with it, and if we should strive to get rid of it.

Slavery and war are interesting juxtapositions here. Throughout history, the vast majority of soldiers, even conscripts, were men. However, most slaving societies enslaved both men and women. Sometimes they had different responsibities based on sex/gender, but other times they did not. So as long as there was the potential to be enslaved, the women being free from being conscripted doesn't seem like a huge plus.

I get the feeling that you believe single parent homes are worse than two parent homes, and I agree with you. The data seems to bear that out pretty cleanly, whether it is a single mom or dad. The OP and his replies seem to be focusing on the complimentarian model of gender more than just "single parent families are worse for kids", which is why I focused on LGBTQ in my response. But I'm more interested in children of 2 men vs 2 women, and their outcomes rather than straight vs gay. I am too, an…

That's...not how burden of proof works. To say that children do better with a mother and father is an affirmative claim. The anti-LGBTQ movement has been making this claim for decades without evidence. There is a lack of good longitudinal research on this specifically because gay marriage is a very recent development - no country recognized it until 2000, and most of the world has still not come around. The claim that a kid needs a mom and a dad has been used as justification to keep gay marriag…

I suppose either a person whose dating world TRP isn't really meant for (polyam, kink, LGBTQ) or whose experience in the early- to mid-adulthood dating world conflicts with the predictions made by TRP. Like, even if I wanted to fit in with the boys here, I couldn't. On top of being nonbinary myself, my dating and sexual history with women consists entirely of (with one exception) feminist and bi/pan women. These are folks TRP men, for various reasons, tend to avoid.

I actually like "not yours, just your turn", without the gendered aspects of course. It's a harsh reminder that most relationships are finite, but more importantly, that your partner never stops being their own person. They can live a lifestyle or make life decisions that you disagree with, and can follow their dreams even if that moves them away from you.

Maybe these criticisms are true for national politics, but much of the government actions that affect your life (especially in America, which is less federalist than Australia and other Anglosphere and Euro countries) come from more local bodies. State assemblies, the county, school boards, city councils. The people in these positions aren't megalomaniacal racist paedophiles, it's Dave from down the street who does your family's taxes eveey February.

Here's the thing. When you're entering a kid's life after they've already been living with the single parent for some time, that's a big life adjustment for you and the kid. Evidence of a behavior is not evidence of an ignorance of said behavior or of a concerted effort to cover it up. I'm not arguing the behavior doesn't exist. All humans have ingroup/outgroup biases, another fact well demonstrated in literature. The degree to which people are aware of these biases is not automatically evident by studying ingroup/outgroup biases, nor can you automatically infer that all people deny or rationalize these biases.

I have no way of verifying that. The page points to a report from a reputable source (the American Association of Blood Banks) but the link 404's. Yeah, it's actually kind of obvious that folks want someone who's a good long-term partner and also sexy. I don't see any issue with that. This is actually a thing beyond virginity. People react negatively to someone just saying that they live a more "moral" lifestyle than them (even if that framing isn't consciously used), because it forces them to confront the fact that they things they do, or have done, might be wrong. Someone happily being a virgin is an ideological threat, of sorts, if you believe that more diverse sexual experiences in young adulthood are the right way someone should live.

They're who spend the most, on average, that's why they're marketed to. My stats are a bit rusty, but despite making less than half of total income, women make up something like two-thirds of consumer spending. To say "pre-pubescent" is a bit of a stretch. The reason males and females have different athletic ability is the effects of testosterone throughout the life cycle. And with some degree of athletic training on top of being in the middle of the biggest T spike in their lives.

More importantly, I have yet to see a single study that says either natural immunity or the vaccine is superior to both at the same time. Natural immunity + vax is best COVID protection.

That take doesn't sound absurd to me. There is evidence that being conventially attractive is a privilege - easier to get jobs, making more money, etc - but I doubt this compares to the effect that being born into poverty has on life outcomes.

The Woke™️ generally acknowledge this, and you'll often see those words all together alongside words like "crazy" or "lunatic" in lists of problematic language not to use. The problem is, I have trouble finding people who are offended by dumb, idiot, and moron on their own behalf, despite the fact that plenty of people with intellectual disabilities - from dyslexia to minor brain damage to early stages of dementia - are perfectly capable of expressing when language offends them.

If you're on Reddit, chances are you're in the upper quartile of privilege - at least on a global scale. I grew up poor - my family was on public assistance - and even I can acknowledge that my experience is a privileged one lol. That said, the whole phenomenon of a SAHM is, by and large, an upper/middle class thing too. It's called "the working class" for a reason. Moms work. Kids work. Everyone works, because you gotta make ends meet.

On one hand, you're right - people should be free to have their own preferences and boundaries in relationships provided everyone's consenting. Urban design plays a role too. America is so goddamned big that everything is so spread out. Lots in all debsity types are bigger than overseas. Mix that with draconian zoning laws (thanks big government) and you have a country where you need a car to get everywhere. The best way I've seen it described is that a woman's career and ambitions are a hygeine factor for most straight men - if something's wrong or missing, it detracts from the experience, but if it's there, it's just kinda "meh". It doesn't matter much if she's an accountant or a nurse or a welder, but if she can't hold down a job at all, it's a red flag.

Not all, but definitely a lot. Some of the big second wave radical feminists, Greer included, were TERFs. Not a big issue when there weren't many out trans people and it wasn't as present of an issue, but it's becoming a liability now. More than that, there are certain TERFs, again Greer included, that have been very eager to ally with and platform conservatives on the trans issue now that everyone's talking about it. I'm not totally sold on the genetic argument either. But to say that the "nature" side of nurture v. nature is just genetics is an oversimplification. We know that homosexuality and transgenderness are incredibly resilient on both the individual level (conversion therapy doesn't work) and the societal level (LGBT people exist in societies so hostile to them that they can be killed by the state). An issue being solved and an issue being too consequentially bad to discuss are separate problems. The "theories" of the social causes of homosexuality have their roots in Freud. Not the few good things he contributed to the field that stuck around, mind you, but wacky ideas such as penis envy that are as close to debunked as you can get in soft science. It's definitely better than toilet paper. While I think the trades are undervalued by many highly educated societies, there is still a benefit to a degree for those willing to pursue it. Many jobs will still post "Bachelor's Degree Required" and the ATS will automatically bin any resume that doesn't have one. It's becoming less important what that Bachelor's Degree is in, but having it still counts for something.

Equal on what grounds? Women didn't get the vote until the early-to-mid 20th century (depending on the exact country) and outlawing discrimination on the basis of sex came even later. The repeal of Coverture Laws and the ability for a woman to have financial and legal autonomy separate from men was not complete in some countries until the 1970s.

Parents do not, and should not, have absolute rights over a child once it's born. If you talk to different feminists, you're going to get different answers, especially since one's ideal society is informed by much more than one's gender politics. That said, my ideal society with regards to gender wouldn't be too far removed from this one, though with us having moved past a lot of sexist ideas that still exist in our society to some degree (men can't be raped, a woman's place is in the home, etc). In that case, it may be helpful to differentiate between different groups of women who are more homogenous in their ideals and interests. This is what some moderate Republicans who call for bipartisanship don't understand. There's always at least one minority group that the American Right is actively fearmongering about and legislating againsts the interests of. In the past few years, we saw Muslims, then Mexicans, and now trans people. How is someone from that group supposed to connect with a right winger if that's the attitude they get from the right?

Depending on where you go and what circles you run in, it can be hard to find certain viewpoints. Most of my volunteer and nonprofit work has been in domestic violence advocacy and LGBTQ communities, in an otherwise very purple metro area. You find a few reluctant Trump voters, a few more never-Trump Republicans, but nobody who downright loves the man.

I thought it was 8, then I double-checked and counted off names and it's only 7. If that's any indication of how often I think about my own number. All of them were either relationships or hookups that turned into longer term FWB arrangements. Male nonbinary, 25 and a half. I will absolutely not date a virgin, though I'd be wary of a number in the upper 2 digits, mostly for STD/STI safety reasons. My ideal would probably be a person similar to me.

Conservative US Latinos usually have a very specific backstory. They (or their parents/grandparents) migrated to the US from a Central or South American country that adopted a radical left-wing government. Often, they were fleeing political persecution. They have a lot of (valid) trauma surrounding Socialism and Communism, and if you can convince them that the opposition is a Socialist party, you're pretty much guaranteed their vote. The fact that Bernie Sanders, a self identified Socialist, was…

Though men lean conservative as a group, those political attitudes are not distributed equally among all men. Nonreligious men, young men, and men of color all lean more left than right. Older (35+) Christian white men are the core of the Republican Party, and are their most reliable voting bloc.

I guess in that perspective it makes sense why you already see so called liberals cheering on the supression of free speech on a sublegal level and some also looking to narrow protections on a legal level as well. You'll almost never find a leftist who is also a free speech absolutist. Generally, people are opposed to abortion because they place the right to life of the fetus above the mother's right to bodily autonomy. Where the fetus came from is irrelevant - being conceived by rape does not invalidate its right to life. Being opposed to abortion with a rape exception means you value something else besides life or autonomy over both of those things. And based on this comment, that thing is imposing consequences on women's sexual behaviornthat you don't like.

The popularization of the nuclear family model has done more to atomize people and erode community ties than anything else. The thing is, other cultures practice multigenerational living and really lean into the belief that "it takes a village to raise a child". These aren't ancient history, though. And there are even more recent wins for Feminism that most people can broadly agree are good. For example, in the US, spousal rape wasn't criminalized nationwide until the mid-90s, long after the Second Wave of Feminism got women full rights to own property and financial assets separate from men. Even more recently, you have battles over abortion access and contraception.

I think what that commenter is asking is, why not just advocate for the issues themselves, and then oppose any feminists who push back on the merits of that issue? The marital stability stuff is a perfect display of correlation doesn't equal causation. Someone who's going to stay a virgin till marriage likely is very traditional - probably religious - and therefore places a high premium on marrying for life and sticking out a marriage no matter what. I don't see why this would be true of women and not of men. In fact, I would actually argue this is more true of men than anything based on this discourse of this sub. I've met quite a few women who are privately pro-life, politically pro-choice. Abortion grosses them out - if they don't outright agree it's murder - and they'd never in a million years have one themselves. They might not even want to be friends with people who've had one. However, they agree with the pro-choicers that abortion bans merely push abortion into the world of DIY and the black market, which endangers mothers while saving no babies. They also recognize that greater access to contracep…

Nothing that maintains consciousness, independent thought or anything else more spiritual people would attribute to a "soul" is working, or ever will again. It's also worth pointing out that the differences in toy preference are pretty basic things like males having a preference for motion and females having a preference for soft textures, that don't map 1-to-1 with the toys our current society thinks of as "boy toys" and "girl toys". For example, while a stuffed animal is exactly the kind of toy this research would say is a "girl" toy, most would see it as more unisex than a Barbie doll, which is posable and not soft, closer to a GI Joe or a Bionic…

I think many men have become softened (not in a good way) and rely on their female partner to provide half of the income yet also do most domestic work. Feminism has created weak and lazy men unfortunately. I think it’s put more work on women. In defense of Feminism, this has been part of the discourse for a while. Feminists in the 70s wrote about how despite women becoming an increasing part of the labor force (for the middle and upper classes, that is, as poor women almost always had to work),…

Technically speaking, you can't change your sex...yet. I'm sure gonad transplants are coming eventually. Regardless, the current suite of treatments get people close enough that those who have the means to get them are generally satisfied. I'm not advocating for everyone to completely flip the script and act like it's opposite day on gender roles. I believe each individual should look at these roles critically and ask themselves, "Is this the kind of person I want to be?". On average, men will tend towards acting masculinely and women towards acting femininely, we don't need social pressure to make sure of that. People are best in the role suited to their individual personality, values, and skills. That's not just for relationship…

That's a really weird to say "masculine men who want feminine women should date feminine women and vice-versa". Many, maybe even most, heterosexuals like traditional gender roles on some level. Of course they're going to be better off in a gender-normative relationship.

Many of our evolved adaptations are vestigial. Women have better color vision, presumably because they did most of the "gathering" part of hunter/gatherer societies. But most women never use this sex-linked trait for its original purpose. Few maintain gardens, and fewer still work in fields picking fruits and vegetables. And we don't really consider gardening a feminine characteristic, at least in the modern west.

When I first heard "vaccine mandate" from the right, it was framed as people being lined up at some government office with prison time for those who do not comply. The existing mandates basically take the approach that we use for MMR for kids and schools, and translates it to adults and workplaces. If you work for the government, you need a vax. If you work in the private sector, your employer has a choice whether to require it or not.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/12/21 05:37 PM
1

Vaccines not reducing transmission should only surprise people who thought vaccination meant they wouldn't need to wear masks In fairness, in the US at least this was actually the government's PR strategy. Earlier this year I saw the phrase "Vaxxed or Masked" quite a lot and the CDC guidance was that masks should not be required for fully vaccinated individuals.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/12/21 05:33 PM

I think a lot of the problems come from the conflicts between the two approaches. Democrat mandates don't work if the minority Republican constituency doesn't play ball. Republican economic re-invigoration doesn't work if more COVID-cautious Democrats don't work or refuse to go back to the office.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/12/21 05:11 PM

I'd say both sides are helping, in their own terms, by providing a clear direction in approaching this virus. The right says, let's keep economic activity high and avoid drifting further into recession, while saving who we can and leaving risk mitigation up to the individual. The left says, risk mitigation should be the top priority and we'll try to manage economic impact along the way, framing COVID as a societal-level problem that takes collective action to solve.

It sounds like you're saying that a leftist woman must act in some gender-neutral way. Even if you assume the liberal feminist position 100%, you're still going to have some people whose interests, personality traits, and fashion choices line up with what is traditionally feminine. Even if we lived in a fully feminist, post-gender society or whatever, some people are going to have those qualities by pure coincidence.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/12/21 05:02 PM

There's a lot of information out there and many of the people making decisions about COVID policy are just trying to balance public safety, the economy, and public opinion. This comment assumes malevolence on the part of these decision makers and I don't think that's realistic.

I think it's a little bit more complex than that. To analyze my own source critically, the only 3 options for abortion legality were "yes" "yes with restrictions" and "no". And given the numbers, many of both men and women who were pro-life must have answered "yes with restrictions". It's possible that the "pro-choice" women saw "restrictions" as meaning things like 3rd trimester abortions that even many abortion advocates are against, whereas "pro-life" men understood it as a general ban with e…

That seems like a somewhat fair assessment, and FWIW Ginsberg when asked about if afterwards expressed similar sentiment. It's hard as a Supreme Court Justice to rule on cases like this, because any ruling is going to carry tremendous precedent, and set the tone for that issue in the national discourse for years to come. I imagine judges sometimes have to make the "right" call for the wrong reason.

"Built for it" is very literal if you're talking about nursing. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense. I don't know where "women will never admit it" comes from. In various sex or relationship subreddits, including this one, you'll find women openly talking about how they're submissive in bed. Almost every survey taken on the matter comes to a similar conclusion - that most (straight) men prefer dominant sexual roles, and (straight) women submissive ones. Most women are sexually submissive to some degree, and this was literally never a secret.

I actually think that kind of law would be reasonable, as long as it still allowed landlords to charge pet fees. Just put it in the lease that you charge an extra X amount in rent for each pet, and if a pet is discovered that was not disclosed at lease signing, you owe that difference before the end of your leasing period. Landlords don't hate pets, they're just concerned about a dog tearing up the carpet or whatever.

I've heard it used to specify someone who has never sexually assaulted a minor and intends not to; though the term "non-offending paedophile" also exists, so I assume it's just an optics game at that point.

Culture doesn't change overnight, and there's a mistake people make in conflating legal equality (Civil Rights act, repeal of Coverture laws, Equal Credit Opportunity, etc) with that society having no sexism. As if legal equality between the sexes removes the "culture" variable entirely.

I'm not sure why you specify female here. The male anatomy is more favorable to having many partners than female anatomy. And any anthropological or biological evidence against pair-bonding for life would apply equally to males and females, would it not?

Get a job is incorrect, but married women (and sometimes even single women) didn't have access to financial instruments like bank accounts and loans in their own name without a male cosigner. The ability of a woman to be legally and financially autonomous is younger than many people on this forum, with some of these laws not being repealed until the 90s.

If all 4 of their adult years were spent as a full time university student, with limited (if any) jobs and extracurricular activities, they really don't have much more life experience than an 18 year old. If that were true, we'd expect that single-father households would have worse outcomes for kids than single-mother household, and a similar story for lesbian couples vs. straight couples vs. gay male couples. Minor nitpick: while deadbeat moms are less common in an absolute sense (because non-custodial parents are overwhelmingly men), when you look at the gender breakdown of non-custodial parents who are delinquent on child support, it's basically equal with a slight lean towards deadbeat moms.

Bi/Pansexual people aren't magically an exception to all of the "innate truths of human nature". Some of them just decided gender roles are dumb after experiencing what dating is like without them. And maybe more of sexual dynamics are learned or socially constructed than you'd like to believe.

The biggest thing I've seen is that reading PPD, you'd get the idea that everyone was attracted to basically the same thing. I'm friends with a lot of people of varying genders and sexualities, and it's a recurring joke that we greatly disagree on what strangers/celebrities are hot or not. People's attractions and "types" vary a lot, and there's just a few things everyone wants to some degree (symmetrical and proportional features, generally clear skin) but everything else is open season.

If you choose a specific style just to appeal to women, you're doing it wrong. You might assume that a woman with a similar style in a similar subculture would be attracted to you if you take on that style. But that's not guaranteed. Maybe that Plain Jane is into folks with wild hair and a lot of tattoos. The oclosest thing to a universal guideline is: don't be boring. But there's a lot of different ways to express yourself.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/10/21 01:08 PM

He gives the example of men who want a virgin provoking that response from women in the first minute of the video. I agree it isn't controlling, and I think the answer to "is it sexist" is that it probably depends on the man with that preference. Is he sleeping around himself, yet most interested in people who are sexually chaste? Or is he just very religious or something and looking for someone with similar values?

IMO that's overcomplicating what rejection is. It's not like women never approach men, it's just less common. Approach with intent to get sex/dates + refusal by the other party = rejection. No matter the gender.

I think it has more to do with the women than with the man. Most of the women I know who "take initiative" in their relationships with men are either feminists, or also have other women in their dating history. /r/PurplePillDebate27/10/21 02:23 PM

That's a good point, you could distill it all to a numbers game. I guess my idea was that while people who don't cold approach might not deal with rejection very often, the point of cold approaching is that you wade through a mountain of rejection to get to an eventual "yes".
/r/PurplePillDebate27/10/21 02:22 PM
1

Well, yeah. Cold approaching people is totally a numbers game. You will find success eventually, but you're going to get turned down a lot, even if you're beautiful. Nobody is everybody's type, and not every rando in public is even receptive to a cold approach at all. Though I do agree, being beautiful will make you more successful. Cold approaching is like OLD in that the other person's assessment of you will be based entirely on appearances and a few superficial interactions.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/10/21 02:10 PM
5

He doesn't seem like he's really engaging with the opposing argument. You wouldn't know from his video why these women believe that wanting a virgin is sexist/controlling or whatever. Maybe that's just wanting a stable second income? Business owners, especially owners of newer or smaller businesses, can't always afford to give themselves a steady salary.

I understand what you're saying, and generally agree, but don't see how it answers my questions.

The ways people use SMV on here make no sense. Like, are we supposed to be calculating our prospective partners' SMVs and how attracted to them we are? How do you determine your own SMV or anyone else's? What does this mean for people attracted to body types generally seen as unattractive, like short men or overweight women?

Yeah. It's definitely more common that it used to be, but it still doesn't happen very often, especially if you're older. The experiences of all the men in these threads whenever the topic comes up definitely speaks to that.

Statements 1 and 4 there seem like they fly in the face of intersectionality, and really make me wonder what kind of feminists you've been interacting with. Any good faith intersectional reading of our society and its history will recognize the degree to which demographic factors outside of sex or gender influence the direction of our lives and how much power we have. It's also foolishly optimistic at best to imagine that getting rid of one systemic inequality or social problem necessarily rids …

That last paragraph is a frequent misunderstanding of transgender people that seems to come from a conflation of gender identity with gender expression. There are feminine transgender men and masculine transgender women alongside cis tomboys and effeminate men - something Dowling understands quite well, having spend 8 years of his life unhappily indentifying as a butch lesbian.

Your second paragraph describes why, in my opinion, the names I named in my other comment are so uncontroversial. When you get out of more abstract questions like "is feminism still necessary as a force for positive change" and get into what we as individuals and a society should do to help men and boys, you get quite a bit of agreement, as well as some interesting discussion. Leftists who have taken "The Breadpill" (accepted the premise that capitalism is inherently exploitative and needs to be…

Have they? The Manosphere, which of course includes but is not limited to men's advocacy groups, has a huge reach across multiple highly trafficked web sites and plenty of web sites of their own, despite many of those platforms going hard against fringe elements of the Manosphere, such as incels and white nationalists. Beyond that, you have to admit that not all men's advocates receive this treatment. Jackson Katz discusses what healthy masculinity looks like in the 21st century, Terry Crews hig…

Men's rights has a lot of unfortunate baggage. Mostly for being positioned as opposing feminism rather than opposing the same gender roles women fight against, but from a men's perspective focused on the plight of men.

I don't think you'll ever find good data on that last point. The world has changed dramatically since then, in terms of the economy, available technology, global politics and more - I'm not sure how you would control for, say, the impact of feminism versus these other factors in evaluating life satisfaction.

Eh, I'd probably rate a super model as a 7. Not everyone's into the same features in other people.

I've lurked on this sub for the past few days and you're the first one I've ever seen ask the question. I don't get this whole quantifying attractiveness thing, I really don't.

Wow, I must be a real top tier chad then, having been made the first sexual move upon multiple times by multiple women...despite having none of the features that people here believe makes a top tier chad.

None of them play down looks by having these features, but it's at least nice to have some conversation starters. Bonus points for people who can turn my interests into a great pick up line.
