I read a book that had a chapter on the history of money and learned that Africans basically used glass beads of varying sizes as currency. The Europeans didn't value the glass beads so they got a ton from home and used it to buy workers. It fuckin broke the already unstable economy mind you but they gladly sold their humans for glass beads that years later. Sorta wild I just read that so I thought I'd share
