I don't want men I know to be depressed, or single against their wish, or suffer from a faulty divorce law, or to think a divorce can destroy their lives. (Doesnct mean I wish it on women, anyway, either).

It's a major paradox of political economy, and public choixe theory: Untargetted programs, or poorly targetted programs or universal programs are more popular (and more costly), than other programs. Programs meant to favour a whole gender are basically universal, their own way.
