Harsher punishments don't actually prevent crimes. I don't know why so many people still believe that dumb shit. See, as it turns out, most people don't actually think they're going to get caught when they commit a crime or else they wouldn't do it at all regardless of what the punishment is. That's the only real deterrence -- how likely they are to be caught.

Not really though. It's estimated that something like 4-5% of priests engage in that behavior while 5-7% of teachers do. There's a huge 100+ page study out there somewhere by the department of education for your reading enjoyment if you have like 3 free hours to read through all that boring shit

This is just not true. Most states allow you to petition to remove your name after a certain amount of time with no more incidents. It depends on the charges and the tier too. Like there's tier 1, tier 2, etc. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, some people are never eligible to be removed. Some states only allow you to ever get your name removed if your prison sentence was less than 2 or so years. The rules surrounding it can vary pretty wildly between states.

There are different types of felony murder though. Not all felony murder is the same obviously. That's why there's 1st, 2nd degree, etc... Elder abuse can be a felony by itself.
