How much do you pay child support?Yes, but I'm in California and each state has its own rules. Seek legal advice to make sure you know the nuances of how it may work for you, regardless of the state you're in. Essentially, trying to estimate what your support costs are going to be is very inaccurate unless you have an attorney involved. Lots of moving parts to consider. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/08/25 10:38 PM
How much do you pay child support?I'd rather not say how much I make but just know that your child support and spousal support numbers are flexible. Therefore, if you're in a long term marriage and probably have to pay spousal support longer than child support, do what you can to shift a larger amount to child support. That way the payments will end once your kid is 18. As a negotiation tactic, you might get your ex to sign off on that sooner if she gets big dollar signs in her eyes. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/08/25 07:08 PM
How much do you pay child support?I make a relatively high amount annually. CS is $3,500 for my one child still under 18. Spousal support is enough to power four households. And…my life is better for it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/08/25 03:21 AM
What to do with the house when my wife wants to keep it but cant afford the mortgage? Would it be dumb to become her landlord? It’s not a win-win. It’s a win for her and loss for you. (1) Sell the house and take the proceeds to buy another investment property, if that’s what you want. You probably could do it and not pay capital gains - consult a tax advisor. (2) If she stays in the house, she’ll move in a boyfriend and make your life hell by NOT paying the mortgage and take advantage of tenant law leniencies. (3) Being “amicable” is a temporary situation, and when the tides turn, she’ll have the upper hand, not you. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/02/25 10:33 PM
Rebuilding your wealth as fast as possibleDO NOT DO THIS. Very few can do it well. For the vast majority, it will end in losses, in both wealth and self confidence. The only gain you’ll have is in regret. Source: professional investment advisor for 25 years and have seen many people blow themselves up. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/10/24 08:06 PM
How much money did you lose in your divorce?I believe much of the equation has to do with the laws in the state you are in. In my case, it was a combination of the state formula, offset by other assets that lessoned the alimony need. It's all up for negotiation, of course. But, the final determining factor if you've been married for a long time (more than 15 years) seems to be putting each spouse on equal "territory" financially, but not necessarily with the same amounts of money post divorce. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/01/24 08:27 PM
How much money did you lose in your divorce? The support was calculated as a stream of income over the years until she turns 62. The $2.25 million is the amount I pay in total over those years. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/01/24 08:17 PM
How much money did you lose in your divorce?Your POV is interesting, but only valid if time machines exist. Indeed, had I have chosen to date the mother of my children for more than two decades, I may have been off the hook for losing those assets. However, depending on the state in which one lives, living together / dating absolutely may result in the same problem of having to give away assets. It's called a "common law marriage." So, red pill concepts are great and all, but very idealistic. Also, when we began dating each other in the l… | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/01/24 09:16 PM
How much money did you lose in your divorce?Ended a 21 year marriage last year and wife was a “stay at home.” Unfortunately, I got a lot of you guys beat on the money lost. $4.2 million in assets and $2.25 million in support until she is “retirement age” of 62. Also, totally agree with a lot of the sentiment here, in that I’d write that check again to receive what I have now —> Mental health, renewed sense of purpose, and the ability to walk the earth anxiety free. All of that is truly priceless. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/01/24 05:19 AM
