Ten times in a year? That's every few weeks the fight was bad enough for her to leave for the night. She was living in terror for a long time. I'm not surprised to hear they were childhood sweethearts, enough time to completely brainwash her and make her feel like she can't leave because she's invested so much of her life in their relationship. This is horrifying.
