You make a great point about networking. A lot if times it really is about who you know, not what you know. A buddy of mine manages a day labor outfit. If I want, I can always head there in the morning, and I'm almost always guranteed to get work for the day. Many rehab centers don't allow you to have your own personal phone. This is because the idea of rehab is to focus in yourself, fighting your demons, and personal growth. Plus, you can't call any of the old contacts who may have helped enable your old bad habits. I've been to rehab myself. For those that don't know the story, there used to be a killer whale named Luna who befriended boats and fishermen off the coast of Vancouver Island after his mother died. He even learned to reconize the boats and people who were regulars in the area. Sadly, he was killed when a boat he was trying to play with accidently ran him over. Look for a career that may not be your favorite choice, but is always in demand and not very susceptible to layoffs. I work in sanitation, one of my brothers is a plumber, and the other is a nurse. Not only do we all make good money, but unemployment in these industries is far and few between. Also, even if you don't get a business degree or university course in finance, learn as much about economics, personal finance, and markets as you can. It well help you greatly.
