Divorce rate also levels off after like 5 partners to near the same level. As someone below mentioned, there are factors that such a stat cannot capture: chief amongst them that there are couples in certain cultures and religions that would be severely penalized for divorcing. That doesn't mean they have a wonderful, fulfilling marriage.

Your supply of oxytocin isn't capped. You can bond with multiple people for multiple reasons. There's good reasons to avoid sleeping around, you don't have to add weird, false justifications.

Why in the actual fuck would you put out an article like this? Your kid is going to end up seeing this. His friends at school are going to end up seeing this. You're fucking his life up before he can even speak. Also, is she letting him eat a nail file?

I literally do not understand why these women don't get abortions. What kind of self-respecting person lets 4 different men leave her with 4 different kids?

Why would you make a dating profile at 7 months pregnant? And why would you use a pre-pregnancy picture? That's not what you look like at 7 months pregnant.

I'm not one to be baited, but I will say this: you became incredibly hostile maybe 6 or 7 comments ago - if you'll scroll back, you'll start to see the patronizing, misogynist language that started to creep in. I tried to continue the conversation regardless because I feel that you are an intelligent person who has obviously spent a great deal of time thinking and talking about this subject. But, you've become so belittling and vitriolic that we're no longer having a discussion. You're just yell…

Look. You aren't getting it. So I will put this in all caps to help you. As I said in my most recent comment, I appreciate the time you took to discuss this with me, but this isn't a civil, productive conversation any longer. Take care.

Why should I accept anything other than what I want? You shouldn't. But you shouldn't expect others to give what they don't want to give. I'm not angry at you for wanting sex, but you seem to be angry that women don't want to have sex with you. No. YOU women expect YOURSELVES to do all those things. We men don't expect all those things unless we're married to you, and even then we don't expect them all. It's a pretty standard societal expectation at the moment. Very few men make enough on their …

Men find almost all women attractive. Whatever kind of woman she is, some man out there's attracted to it. Skinny, fat, BBW, SSBBW, all hair colors, all eye colors, big tits, bit tits, fake tits, real tits, tomboy look, girly girl look, from plain to pornstar hot, doesn't matter - 98% of women can get some group of men interested in them. I apologize, in my original comment I misspoke. I agree with you - men find a broader range of things attractive whereas women have more exacting standards. I …

Yes. But the male female relationship is unique. It was almost always transactional in nature. I give her provisioning and protection. She gives me sex. No sexytime? No provisioning and protection. Period. End of discussion. All relationships are transactional then. Why do you spend time with your friends? You're getting something out of it. Why own a dog? You're getting something out of it. And so on. The difference here is that although you may get multiple things out of interactions with frie…

Yes, there are some men who argue "entitlement" to sex and/or women. They would be wrong. But the other side, which claims they are entitled to the time, attention, resources, and money of men, even when they offer nothing in return, are also wrong. And we agree. No one is entitled to anything that someone else has to offer. Furthermore, you are not entitled to something just because you previously were afforded it - sex with prior partners, money from an ex-husband. In a saner world, a woman ex…

>Feel free to show me where I have expressed "that type" of thinking, ie pushing for equality if -- and only if -- it benefits me. Honestly, I don't know where you feel I expressed double gynocentric standards. Perhaps women do find men they out earn less attractive. Do you find women who are fatter than you less attractive? But I will agree wit you - I financially supported an unemployed partner for close to 3 years. I didn't really enjoy it. And his refusal to find a job was a factor in leaving.

That is an excellent question. It's likely a self-reported statistic - which certainly lends it less credence. Conversely, there's a stat floating around here that 70% of divorces were initiated by women. However, that stat was lifted from a 2000 person survey. All stats should be taken in context. :)

You've made some really salient, interesting points here. A man typically won't admit to abuse because of pride and ego True and unfortunate. I feel that the "hyper-masculinity" that we force on men contributes to this. Men aren't ALLOWED to have feelings, they're not ALLOWED to be vulnerable, they're not ALLOWED to "admit" weakness. I have no good solutions to this, just an observation. Physical abuse is easier to prove than emotional Absolutely. So much of mental or emotional abuse - eg. gasli…

I think that we're all guilty of that type of thinking - that's why I like to talk to a lot of other people, to test my ideas and values. Why is it unreasonable to ask for all of those things - childless, under 30, employed, apartment ? (BTW I am over 30, I merely tossed in 30 because you had initially.) I'm not saying that I wouldn't be open to deviations, but that would be a starting point in evaluating relationship potential. Just as the men here have identified attractiveness, femininity and…

Would you say maybe people with a martyr complex? Or a victim mentality? Nothing is ever their fault - always someone else's? I certainly know a lot of women like that. Some men too. I guess I was taking issue with the notion that this woman in the OP was automatically assumed to be lying about being abused. It was immediately downplayed to "Oh, silly women! You think men abuse you just because they won't give you extra money to get your nails done, or they won't let you sleep with Chad on the s…

I'm so sorry to hear that. I didn't mean to offend you. I too was in a lengthy relationship with a man who was either BPD or a narcissist - he was never diagnosed so I'm not entirely sure which. While the relationship did eventually escalate into violence, I had no idea that the abuse had started so early and so insidiously. When I learned about gaslighting, it was like a light bulb went on in my mind. Years of being told I mis-remembered things, that I was blaming him for everything, that I was…

I think that abuse is far more common than we make it out to be. It's only in the last couple decades that people have really become vocal about it in general. In previous generations, what went on between a husband and wife was "nobody's business." I guess it would also depend on what definition of abuse you were working with. I'm sure less women have had the shit beaten out of them than those who would describe emotional or mental abuse. However, that goes both ways. I know plenty of women w…

This is usually with not just one past partner they have had, but with several other past partners they have had... Statistically, someone who has been previously abused is more likely to seek out similar partners in the future. I'm not 100% certain on the psychology behind it, but I remember touching on it briefly in my public health undergrad courses. As to how someone "gets" abused? If you've ever been in an abusive relationship (men can be abused too), you don't really know it, see it, reali…

Same. Before I met my husband I guess he was a bit into this type of subculture, or at the very least agreed with some of it. I struggle to understand it. I see posts on here, and I know some shitty trashy women IRL, but it's hard for me to think that this represents the majority.

Well, couldn't the same be said of men, though? There are very few fit (not ripped, simply not overweight), childless, men under 30 who have a steady job and their own place. I think it's fair to say that there are just a lot of garbage people around, gender be damned.

I totally agree with everything you've said here. The only issue I had was the implication that she couldn't/shouldn't/wouldn't be a mechanic because of gender. All of those other issues you've mentioned make it far less likely that she will be a mechanic than the fact that she's got a vagina.

For me, at least, these are the 3 bare minimums that are required. I totally agree with you that those qualities are the basis of any good relationship (sub be masculine in for women). It's less about male entitlement and more about the fact that women extract resources, time, money, and energy from good men Don't you put in resources, time, money and energy into lots of things? Kids? Friends? Pets? Family? withholding sex Does your dog or your kid owe you sex (sorry to be so crude, but the analogy I feel is sound) simply because you've put time into them? Well, then you're an insecure person. I've had to put catheters in hundreds of men. And if they've had a male nurse/doctor place the catheter before, they'll sometimes straight up ask if there's a man around to do it. Why? Men know better than I ever could on how to handle a dick. They've been handling theirs for years. So, sure, you can have a disinterested woman shoved a huge plastic tube in your dick all the while thinking you're a huge whiny baby or a guy who actually empathizes and does his…

Genderized professions hurts everyone. I am a nurse. I work with nurses. Some nurses are men. I worked in urology. I handled countless genitalia per week. No one EVER asked or implied that there was something untoward about my interest in urology. Yet, my make coworker (yes, one, a single male)? It was constant. I apologize if this does not capture how you personally feel, but I have read multiple "incel-esque" posts about how they are entitled to women, entitled to sex, sex is a right and so on. I've even seen posts discussing how the government should dole out women to men to get to "x" point in life. Or even just dehumanizing women to the point where they have no value other than their ability to be fucked by someone. It's an interesting, albeit disturbing, train of thought.

Thanks for your reply. As I said in another reply, if this truly represents the majority of women, then I am obviously out of touch with today's dating scene and I feel badly for the men trying to wade through all this shit. I am certainly not a unicorn, and I've had my fair share of problems and mistakes. However, I'm just trying to be a decent human being and better myself in general. That's all any of us can do. If this is what the majority of women are like, then maybe I am simply woefully out of touch or else sequestered in a particular microcosm that doesn't lend itself to that type of behaviour. Thanks for your response, it's thought provoking. That's really interesting that women are more likely to divorce if they make more than their partners. I'd be interested in knowing what the reasoning here is. Are women who are making more dissatisfied being the bigger bread winner? Do they feel that they're entitled to more? Or is it something in their mate selection that they later regret (are the lower paid men correlated with other "problematic" traits - gambling, drug use, etc)? Are there s…

I think that these types of generalizations are unfounded and unproductive. My husband pays the mortgage. I pay all of the bills, including his car insurance. It's roughly equal. Some months I pay more due to groceries, cell phone bills, etc, some months I pay less and the excess goes into our joint savings account or is an extra mortgage payment. I remember the first time a female friend told me that a mutual acquaintance had cried "rape" on a guy, "to get back at him". I lost a bit of respect for some of the members of my gender that day. Regardless, the causative "protective effect" of female circumcision was unable to be identified by the study. Heretofore, it would be unethical and ridiculous to suggest this as a preventative measure. And you can't discount the other negative effects of the procedure.

Yes, patients will be assigned a male nurse and then refuse care from them. I agree that more men should be nurses, diversity can only help the profession. Nurses are not expected to move or restrain patients alone - in fact we're NOT allowed to do that at all. Bariatric patients are moved with the help of 1 or 2 other nurses (although I've seen as many as 4 nurses to 1 patient for a diaper change). We are also expected to use the ceiling lifts.

I am lucky enough to work on a fantastic floor with wonderful people. Drama is neither encouraged nor tolerated. I realize that this is not necessarily the norm - but there ARE nurses who take their jobs seriously. I find patients more than the nurses to be anti-male.

My husband explained part of this argument to me a few years ago. However, it specifically related to engineering. Elevatorgate was a huge point of contention in my household. My husband was pro-Watson, whereas I thought she was being a fucking crybaby.
