when they are annoyed Insecure* Lashing out at a guy because he wanted to explain something you think you don’t need explained to you is an insecure reaction, not just annoyance. A lot of times if guy starts explaining something to you, it’s because you acted in such a way where it seemed like you didn’t know. I’ve received explanations I didn’t really need to, but 9 times out of 10 it’s because I did something I should have known better not to do.

“Elon musk is rich but I’m not” is not a refutation of male privilege. Male privilege can be concretely defined, and it has been, feel free to google a list. The only thing you are pointing out is that rich people are more privileged than non rich people; and yeah no shit, that goes without saying, but that doesn’t mean other privileges don’t also exist. Look if you wanted to take the position that men also face disadvantage as well as privilege, sure. If you want to say women also have privileg…

No they don’t, they define patriarchy as a system where men hold all or most of the power, and a Symptom of this is the benefit of all men. Not the success of all men, but the benefit, which is technically true. So this argument can easily countered with “Patriarchy both benefits and hurts men, as long as men hold most of the power, it’s still a patriarchy.” Nobody ever argued that patriarchy only helps men and that’s it. Even when using the feminist definition, this argument is still an easily …

That’s a fine counter to such an argument, but that’s not the argument being made, the final arguement is “Is that what patriarchy looks like to you” and the truthful answer is yes, sometimes it does. Feminists didn’t invent the word patriarchy, it already existed as a concept, with a definition. And this argument does not contradict the actual definition or the way feminists use the word. No need to downvote me dude, I’m not trying to hurt you’re feelings. I argue a lot, and I know what works a…

The problem with this argument is that the latter point about homeless has nothing to do with the definition of patriarchy. Patriarchy is only defined by men holding access to the most powerful positions in a society, whether they also hold the lowest positions or not is irrelevant to the meaning of the word. You’re trying to discredit patriarchy, and this argument just plain doesn’t do that. I don’t see the argument holding very much sway over anyone who isn’t an MRA in a real debate.

You’re not answering the question. I asked you what the honest intentions of “expressing disappointment” is? I understand your claim is that it is not meant to be a guilt trip, and I am asking, if it is not that then what is it. There are three questions you need to ask yourself: What is the point of this? How is this going to look? What do I stand to gain from this? I still don’t know what you think the point of this is. I can address question 2, it is going to look like a guilt trip (that’s no…

Maybe I just have that old fashioned masculinity, but everything about that just screams pathetic to me. What is the actual point of saying this? It sounds like you’re guilt tripping her and telling her she’s making a mistake. Is the honest intention behind this statement to attempt to win her over or try and make her feel bad about rejecting you? Because it looks like the intention is to try and just make her feel bad. I actually think this is total bullshit, and I disagree that you have a “rig…

I’m exclusively speaking in the context of the former scenario: she doesn’t know you.

Well, no, trying was not a mistake because you didn’t know she would reject you, the mistake only comes from continuing to push after she rejected you. What I am saying is: assume they don’t have empathy (they probably won’t), and move on. You don’t need their empathy even if they have it, you need to move on. They are far more likely to say “I said no, now go away creep.” Than say “Awww poor baby, here let me hook you up with my friend.” I have no idea why you think this woman needs to hear you…

“You have a right to express your disappointment.” Yeah, but don’t though. The woman that just rejected you doesn’t give a fuck about you or your disappointment, don’t bother expressing it to her, nothing useful or good is going to come out of that exchange. Either she is going to accuse you of harassing her (bad), or she is going to come up with a sick burn that makes you feel worse (also bad). As soon as you are rejected, it’s over, walk away and move on.

Cool beans, now explain to me in what way is this evidence to of “he will appoint thousands of fanatical misandrist to policy formation roles across the federal government.” In what way does rolling back a single trump era regulation that only effects college campus sexual misconduct suddenly mean he is anti men and going to appoint “radical misandrists” into powerful positions? You are catastrophizing over a single roll back, only effective on college campus, and otherwise just means the campus…

It looks like by “face reality” you mean “face my imagination” because nothing you are saying is actually based in evidence. I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then I have zero interest in baseless paranoid alarmist speculation.

What are you saying exactly that we are victims of because we live five years shorter on average? We’re victims of lack of research? Kind of a silly thing to feel victimized by don’t you think? That’s like saying I’m a victim because we haven’t figured out how to cure aging yet.

Blaming some feminist shadow government in response to this article, is every bit as stupid as a feminist claiming some guy dumping his fiancé because she gained weight is caused by patriarchy. Sometimes people are assholes because they just are, not because the shadow matriarchy is teaching them to be assholes.

What? Why would you expect some rando in an arranged indian marriage to hold up to American intersectional feminist ideals? The feminist “establishment” is not making this happen, this is Indian culture making this happen. Yeah it sucks, but don’t act like this is the intended outcome of feminism, it’s got nothing to do with it.

Oh for fuck sake, OP. Honestly though, even if men were killed, do we really need to sound the alarm just because a news article thinks you should shed an extra tear for woman and children casualties? The fact that women and children casualties are extra sad has more to do with them being seen as helpless bystanders than it does with men’s lives being irrelevant and disposable. Men are supposed to be on the battlefield, mothers and children aren’t, that’s the association, that’s why it’s extra s…

Totally agree with everything you are saying. Yet somehow, women didn’t land in the same pitfall that men did. Women all over the western world can freely hold hands, cuddle, share beds etc, and zero value judgements or accusations are going to come their way. While men cannot publicly do these things without having their sexuality questioned or outright judged. The reason I started by focusing on how women effect this is to essentially preemptively address the notion that homophobia is an exclu…

What really stuck out to me was the parts about how as a modern society, we can’t really look at these pictures of old timey men being affectionate with each other without projecting a non-straight sexual orientation. It reminds me of blogs that show “proud gay couples” from the 19th century, there is zero evidence that the men in those pictures were actually gay. Makes me wonder if men are becoming over-sexualized in our culture, we just can’t look at men touching without jumping straight to se…

The whole argument in the article is based on things he supported 30 to 40 years ago. He has already admitted these were mistakes that he wishes to correct. That’s good enough for me.

Do you actually know anything about George Washington? Because he wasn’t exactly what we would call a “leftest”. If George Washington was reincarnated and held the exact same positions he held in 1776, we would fucking LOATHE him.

Oh okay, and the fuck is Donald Trump plan to reduce prison population? There is none, he is in favor of privatized prisons and the guy would jail his political opponents if he could! It is a binary election, it is Biden vs the worst president in the world. Even if everything in this shit post was 100% accurate I’d still pick him over Trump. With that said, this post has nothing to do with Male advocacy and has no business being here.

The principal that I think is missing from those who are trying to abolish gender roles is that gender roles are not determined individual by a particular ideology, or individual parent or teacher, they are determined collectively by society as one big whole. So for instance, I once read some anecdotes from a mom who was trying to make her baby boy wear dresses. For a short period of time he did, but then he stopped wanting to wear dresses, and began to just want to dress like a boy (she still m…

That’s actually not the argument they use. Their argument is that patriarchy and rape culture has actually “taught us” to be violent and rapey. They also present a solution, heavy indoctrination from the moment of birth to “teach us” not to rape an beat women. It is equally idiotic, but consistent with their worldview.

The primary purpose of the sexism = power + gender prejudice definition is to use that definition to shut men up when they point out feminists doing something sexist. It is the appropriation of the racism = prejudice + power argument, which is still flawed in it’s assumption that black people can’t possibly have power in this society, it is twice as flawed in it’s application to all women. Women as a group, definitely have power and a lot of it. But just look at the way the argument is used. 100…

Let's pretend for a second that the article is totally right about everything, there just too many god damn white men out there, what the fuck is r/MensLib supposed to do about that? This isn't what I wrote, so I'll wait for you to read what I actually wrote and respond to it. You're a bit on the literal side aren't ya? Winning hearts and minds just means persuading people. It is laughable that you would even think an article that wasn't written to persuade people exists. This is why the article is talking about this historically, where unmarried white men were a large percentage of the population. No, the article does not frame this problem as being only a historical proble…

Not sure why we're all discussing it then. t's trying to make a specific point, one that's been made by scientists many times - too many idle men destabilizes society. Well, we can start by not dehumanizing these young men by calling them “Surplus” as if they were a commodity. Secondly we could have a little bit of compassion instead of just casting them as “ticking time bombs”. Writers like this never seem to understand that treating entire an entire race and gender as a scourge on humanity isn’t going to win you those hearts and minds. You are literally taking the tools of the oppressor: Stereotyping, fear mongering, demonizing, dehumanizing. Tools that we a…

Right considering the fact that the male stance on this is that it is our duty to provide emotional labor for our partners in this way. It is our duty to listen and understand our partner’s emotional hardships, this is a need that needs to be met. It’s not a woman’s job in a relationship to be your therapist, that’s true, it is not possible for either partner to function as a therapist, however, you do need to be emotionally available, and that is all we are asking for.

It’s a mild annoyance at the worst. I had a female boss who used to over explain things I understand very well all the time. It’s really just a question of what you are projecting on these behaviors. For instance when this boss over-explained things to me, I didn’t project bad intentions, I just interpreted it as an almost anxious need to be thorough even if it means stating the obvious. Genderizing the act of over-explaining, just teaches people to project bad faith when it’s a guy doing it, an…

I would argue that what separates splaining from explaining is one thing: splaining is an explanation given for the purpose of posturing not informing. This is something both men and women do. The funny thing is though, behind the notion that mansplaining is such a horrible crime, is the assumption that women’s egos are so fragile that telling them something they know already is like a punch in the face. I’ve had people explain things to me that I already know all the time at work, both men and …

I see. Most of the gay men in my life are pretty ardent feminists, so I don’t see the critical takes on feminism by gay male perspectives very often. Although I have seen other hot takes as well, such as critiques on feminists trying to swallow up gay culture and positioning themselves the mouthpieces of LGBTQ communities even though they have no claim to it. I apologize for my initial contrarian tone, I get wrapped up in argumentation sometimes, and I didn’t mean to downplay your lived experien…

I understand that, and I don’t mean to suggest that gay men are all effeminate. I’m only saying that when assessing homophobic responses, it is probably the perspective of the homophobe in question that determines whether or not they will see gay men as effeminate, rather than the perspective of gay culture.

I don’t find this particularly convincing. The claim you make and the premises you set up in support of it don’t even connect. The claim is: homophobia is caused my misandry not misogyny. But then you support that claim by saying “if it were just about hatred against gays then things would be different ...” You’re not trying to refute whether or not homophobia causes hate, you’re trying to refute whether or not misogyny causes homophobia. So that supporting argument has nothing to do with your c…

Let’s start with a TL:DR: The viewpoint you expressed in your narrative is not simply incelish, it is blatantly misogynistic and egocentric, and the people of r/polyamory correctly identified this. I want you to know that I read this from as empathetic of a place that I could, and I still feel like I need to be straight with you and tell you there is some pretty toxic ideas expressed in here that are much better off discarded. The problem is, knowing that the subject is low in humility/honesty doesn’t tell us very much about the bully and how they are even going about bullying. I wish they attempted to measure physical attractiveness, among other traits. Physical attractiveness would be an example of a tool that can be leveraged for manipulation, and an alternative explanation for why they get sex, so I am wondering what tools were these bullies using to leverage their power over people? Was it physical force? Charism…

Agreed, this person acts as if every single woman is a trained qualified therapist just by nature. Taking on an emotional burden does not mean you are qualified to take on an emotional burden. The result of this that she desires, is for woman to get richer and what she considers low quality men get poorer. Being less readily emotionally available does not make you a low quality person. Some people, both men and women, are naturally more oriented toward logical and dispassionate thinking over emp…

To be fair, it’s receiving the correct amount of criticism by the feminists that article was presented to. That article was more confusing than anything.
