Good post. Where the modern left is losing me is exactly what you described. "Protected class" based on historical oppression status, rather than * ACTUAL * content of character and actions. Personally, I value inclusion of all races, genders, ethnicities, etc. but I refuse to cowtow to someone who is objectively acting badly simply because they are 'oppressed' class and therefore beyond criticism. Don't even get me started on 'incel', that term is a gendered slur, IMHO. Socially acceptable bigo…

Ding ding ding. "The Manosphere™️" is whatever they want it to be, it's a boogeyman used to demonize and discourage any collective action on behalf of men. Men talking online - Manosphere. Richard Reeves's instagram page? Manosphere. Scott Galloway's podcast? Manosphere. I know the mainstream concept relates more to reactive misogyny content, hypermasculine BS, but truly. This subreddit is the manosphere. It's an anti-liberal, gendered term designed to divide, for that reason I take exception to…

I agree with both of you. I felt some shadenfreude toward misandrists, but deep down, I knew that Trump winning would only make them worse. I almost wanted Kamala to win just to shut them up about the mythical modern-day "Patriarchy".

Terrible. Also, shame on our American media for their warped coverage of this. I remember reading headlines emphasizing how this was a 'girl's school'. As if destroying a school in general isn't bad enough, they needed to really push their political agenda and go for maximum sympathy. Something along the lines of: "Girls are being killed. HORRIFIC. Boys? meh."

I tend to agree with you. There were so, so many better ways to phrase what I think they were trying to say. Reminding rescue efforts to help women and girls in specific ways that they need would have landed much better than "We call for women and girls to be at the center of rescue efforts". That's just beyond poor messaging.

Reddit 100%. Allows for echo chambers where no opinion, regardless of how biased, flawed, toxic, or regressive is challenged. Facebook is awful also - I started following this subreddit and others like it after a troubling experience with women-only "AreWeDatingTheSameGuy" groups that Facebook inexplicably allows.

This is the main angle that kills me. "Men have been doing this to us for thoooooousands of years!!!" Um. OK. I wasn't there. Neither were you. We're here now, and it feels an awful lot like the people saying this just want justification for female supremacy and preferential treatment.

Totally. Another war and we have another generation of traumatized men like the greatest generation, much further from treating women well, to say nothing of their own well-being and prosperity. So shortsighted and cruel.

This place used to be the PERFECT mix of center-left/left-wing political discourse mixed with rational, nuanced criticisms of feminism.... it's gone a little off the rails lately. Too bad, because there is really no remaining place between r/menslib and r/mensrights anymore. I cant handle the self-flagellation of menslib, and mensrights attracts... the wrong crowd, sometimes.

You missed my point - I was giving the example that historically, women COULD NOT own homes or vote prior to the 1920's. You can't sit here and argue that men didn't have SOME major advantages (and yes, massive, massive responsibilities) historically speaking, without losing nearly all credibility. That's just absurd. But, modern feminists acting like we, in 2026, are 'literally living in Gilead' is far more absurd. There is no remaining patriarchy in modern life, aside from vestigial traces of …

Do you like voting? Owning a home? Bro, patriarchy in a modern sense is as irrelevant, over and gone as a steam engine. It simply doesn't exist in any sustainable way. But if this subreddit is going to deny it ever existed in any form, we have officially lost the plot here. You'll note I never said men didn't have unique disadvantages along with privilege, war, manual labor, violent crime, suicide, ect. But let's be honest about history, or we lose all credibility.

This right here. It's a glaringly obvious deflection. How can feminists not see this? I'll answer my own question - a mixture of being played on their personal traumas, biases, and need for privileged victimhood status.

Right, which is why I said in the very next line that there are obvious counterpoints. I want us to stop fighting the culture wars of last century and bringing those solutions to today's issues. The hand-wringing about 'patriarchy' and focusing on it as somehow the main boogeyman in today's gender landscape is as absurd as worrying about being injured while working on a steam boat during the industrial revolution. Irrelevant.

It absolutely existed, in power structures like the Catholic church (and most major world religions), pre-1920's voting, and in the economic sector, ie home ownership, job prospects, income, ect. I fully realize there are counterpoints to those examples, but let's be intellectually honest. It was certainly advantageous to be a man (in many ways) 6+ decades ago, and for most of human history. The issue is that now, most of those examples leave only vestigial traces in western societies, but mains…

THIS. It comes down to the word 'patriarchy'. It's a complete misnomer. What they're trying to describe are 'traditional gender roles'. Yes, traditional gender roles can be very harmful to both men and women. But... patriarchy... that harms men too... ISNT A PATRIARCHY then, is it?? I take huge issue with this term, it ends up just feeling very... blame-y. Patriarchy is the problem (men), feminism is the solution (women)... more of men=bad women=good. Ugh. Zero nuance in it. and a complete shift…

Not only that - a New Zealand study revealed that 70% of women preferred men who made more money as attractive potential partners. To make money, men must take leadership roles, advance their careers, assume positions of power. ...and then we sit back, and wonder why we have a pay gap and 'patriarchy'. /sigh

Furthermore, in extreme misandrist communities, some women actually want wars to occur, simply because it means men will be killed instead of existing and possibly inconveniencing or harassing them.

I literally pulled her aside and held her accountable, IN FRONT of my other family members, told her she was spewing bigotry, hatred, and unprofessional garbage and that it was unacceptable. You're delusional if you think you'd try to go after a family member's professional license without talking to them first about why their hate speech is wrong.

I did the same. My sister is a chronically online, man-hating 'feminist' (the zero-sum, death to "The Patriarchy" kind). She shared this awful meme to her socials with a picture of a barbecued (man's) head on a platter, with the caption: "Men must be served". Mind you, she's a social worker who counsels people 1:1, including men who might be suicidal or have serious mental health problems. Totally unprofessional to put that online. Yes, we should fight for equal life expectancy, as well as equal treatment in schools. Giving someone one year less of earning potential rather than meeting their age-specific educational needs is doing that person a disservice.

I agree. He knows his audience. I've said this from the start - I am willing to wager that if you got Reeves 1:1 he would agree with most of the sentiments of this forum. However, in order to keep his open invitation on 'The View' and MSM, he has to be 'a feminist' who happens to advocate for male issues. He all but says this in the first chapter of his book. Disagree? Just look how unpopular and de-platformed literally ANYONE else is that has tried to advicate for men's issues. (hint: there are…

One less year of potential income, when male lives are already 5 years shorter. Implies that there is something 'wrong' with boys themselves rather than something wrong with how they are instructed and taught in schools. I have generally liked Reeves, but he's way off on these two proposed ideas.

So, so true. It's a shame, because a rising tide lifts all boats. A society with healthy, respected, nurtured men is a society that has men who are better to women. I find this gender war dynamic incredibly petulant. As with most 'oppressor/oppressed' labeled arguments, they paint with far too broad a brush and fall victim to the same type of bigotry they claim to oppose. It's human nature, I guess.

So well written! Bravo, can we brigade the feminists subreddits with this?? (JK, but this needs serious consideration from feminist groups). #7 i especially agree with. Patriarchy - bad. FEMinism - good. It's just so brazenly man-blaming, it's right there in the words. FFS, if these people ever actually want solutions and broad appeal, you'd think they could drop these sexist terms and use gender neutral nomenclature... but it's about blaming men, being right, and holding privileged status, not …

They have such an obvious blind spot here, in associating men - bad, women - good, but then purportedly seeking 'equality' while simultaneously speaking inequality into existence with the very word 'feminism'. It's mind blowingly short-sighted and maddeningly frustrating, black and white thinking.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/03/26 06:09 PM

I strongly agree, and I REALLY wish feminists would take a hard, introspective look at the language they use. For example: If feminism were about equality, it would be called 'gender equality'. If 'fighting the patriarchy' wasn't about demonizing men, it would be called advocating for 'egalitarian gender roles'. If the goal was to unite rather than divide, you'd stop casually using divisive terms: 'man-o-sphere', 'man-splaining', 'incel', 'man-spreading', etc.. If any feminist guests here could …

I love how they STILL have to tiptoe the line and make it clear that the real ultimate goal here is to combat misogyny. Approaching the boys in an appropriate, empathetic manner is just a means to that end, a side-effect of helping women and girls be protected from misogyny 😂 And the boys are accused of conspiratorial thinking...? Who could blame them? Still, big kudos to the authors for largely cutting through the BS methods used in the UK initiatives around this and at least taking the radical…

Yes. Reeves is a very intelligent person. He knows that he has to play this game from the position as 'one of the good ones', aka, a feminist. It's all too easy to get cast as any of the labels that feminists use against men they disagree with: 'red-pilled', 'incel', 'man-o-sphere producer', if you don't explicitly state that you're a feminist first. I surmise that if we were around a campfire with Reeves and had a few beers, he'd probably pretty quickly distinguish himself from feminism if his …

I call it 'shining city on a hill' feminism. The theoretical, idealistic, egalitarian feminism that's taught about at universities in social science courses and academic circles. I'd be for that (with a re-branding), it's just that what's usually practiced in reality is 'pop' feminism, a sort of self-serving, reactionary breed of feminism that demonizes men and borrows lots from radical feminism and then, when convienient, retreats to the safe umbrella of that idealistic, egalitarian feminism th…

Through their lens, that is also the fault of men by way of 'the patriarchy' having instilled 'internalized misogyny' into those supposedly brainwashed, choiceless women who support trump (through no fault of their own, of course).

Furthermore, excluding men's issues from discussions regarding gender equality and demonizing men in a broad manner drives many men rightward resulting in election outcomes that we ALL strongly oppose.

I hate the idea of being 'anti'. It doesnt work. Anti racism, anti feminism, anti anything, you have to be PRO what you believe in. Anti- whatever just speaks the cause you oppose into existence. Lets nuke that sub and start over. We already have LWMA and Egalitarianism, those are great places to start.

I TOTALLY agree. I can't stand menslib, they strike me as 'apologist'. "Golly gee, we're sorry for all the bad men. We'll cut our dicks off if it makes women feel more safe!' And mensrights has an overt air of aggrievement that borders on and frequently crosses into misogyny. I do feel uncomfortable there, although they bring up some valid and important points. This place is a unicorn and I am so grateful for it.

Using Occam's razor, I always come back to this: It's right there in the name. There is a term for gender equality - egalitarianism. "Feminism" inherently speaks inequality into existence. It really is that simple.

^THIS!^ I have a very low tolerance for painting any demographic with a broad brush - it is the foundation for prejudice and bigotry. Despite people (women in this example) having very valid, very real traumas, the minute you blame an entire gender, race, religion, etc., you've lost. It's a great way to lose allies. "Darkness doesn't cast out darkness. Hate doesn't cast out hate. Only love can do that."

There is a thought-provoking book called "The Morning After the Revolution" by Nellie Bowles... she has a chapter on intersectionality discussing a community in San Francisco that turned the concept of intersectionality on it's head and essentially ranked people inversely based on their 'privilege' to determine the order they were allowed to speak at a community event. Female POC first, then any POC, and ensuring that white men would be last to speak. Literally leading with racism and sexism. Ma…
