I’m so sorry you went through that. I hope you find someone who truly loves YOU - even if that person ends up being yourself. I truly think it’s a lot better to be single than it is to be in a relationship where your partner doesn’t even love you. At the end of the day, it’s really just the toxic people you don’t want around anyways who both don’t love their partner and also can’t find a way to be okay with being single

That last sentence- literally one of my worst fears as a woman at this point is ending up with a guy who dates me just because the woman he wanted wasn’t available. But they seem to do that all the time probably because their adult skills in a patriarchal society are often highly underdeveloped, and they’re also insecure and others seeing them single is highly humiliating to them. They also don’t seem to be good enough human beings to have a problem with manipulating a woman they don’t like, and…

I don’t know you, I couldn’t possibly answer this. But sometimes with dating you have to first prioritize yourself and then be very intentional about dating. You might need to get creative. Be honest with yourself- it’s okay if you have standards, but if such a small population meets those standards that your chance of ending up with someone who does meet those standards is very small, then you might have to accept that it might not happen. Are you looking for someone with similar interests? Wha…

My husband and I met on a dating app. 7 years happy and healthy together.

There are other ways someone can not be lonely without being entitled to romantic and sexual exclusivity. Family and friends for example. I know that some peoples’ birth families suck, but you can also make friends. My romantic partner’s happiness is not my responsibility. It’s theirs. Likewise, my happiness is not my romantic partner’s responsibility. It’s mine. Romantic and sexual access to another person is not a requirement for not being lonely.

Absolutely. And in my opinion it is far worse to be in an unhealthy or unhappy relationship than to just be single.

I couldn't have possibly said it better myself, especially that last sentence. Romantic relationships are HIGHLY glamorized. It's easy to think that this thing that society says is wonderful, will magically make us happy and be exactly what we need. But it won't.

I agree. OP needs to prioritize himself first. Becoming happy before dating is essential - it is SO tempting to find happiness and fulfillment in a partner but also so important not to give into that temptation.

It sounds to me like you haven’t fully deprogrammed RP thinking yet - I say that out of concern, not judgement.

I did think about this a bit and just from some of the stuff I have learned, understand that your brain has neuroplasticity. Once you are deep into a negative thought pattern, it’s very hard to change that. But I would suggest continually trying to casually be around women and be really honest with yourself about their personalities. Something that worked wonders for me in different areas of thinking patterns that needed to change, not RP - travel to Mexico and visit the residential areas. Notic…

Of course! Attachment issues are not your fault. Human beings are socially messy and figuring out how to exist peacefully can truly be difficult and I wish you the best of luck. 🙌

Not yet, and it’s also worth clarifying that I am still in college—but I look forward to it, as my goal in the field is to help people who, like myself, have struggled with problematic social media use and been harmed by it. Another good point is that social media is still relatively new, and we still don’t fully understand the long-term psychological effects of communities like RP or which clinical approaches are most effective for helping people leave them. Personally, learning about social ps…

I guess we can agree to disagree on this one, but as social media is very new, I really don’t think we should underestimate its potential harm or assume we know everything just yet. I personally adopt a stance of strong caution, because I believe it is potentially much more harmful than we let on, and that it’s an important discussion- that being said I don’t think banning social media altogether would be a realistic or effective approach either.

I guess I can partially understand where you may be coming from, but there is evidence of many cases of addiction to the technology. I think it’s also very new, and we also need to be really honest with ourselves about how social media and even other sources of entertainment subconsciously cause us to form unrealistic and unfair expectations of others

I would agree with that. I’m close family friends with a family from another country and they are downright concerned about people in the US, particularly children being raised in our current culture. They’re concerned that American culture is not concerned at all with the welfare of future generations or kids.

Yes but pushing the idea that everyone needs romance also wouldn’t be as effective if we lived in a society where everyone truly got psychosocial needs met. I’m majoring in psychology and long term stable attachments with the same people in some form or another is generally a fundamental human need greatly shaping behavior, so we need to foster a culture that prioritizes healthy attachment to others being available for EVERYONE, whether that be through friendship, family, community, whatever it …

It’s not just a culture- tech companies are by and large fully aware of what they’re doing and exploiting people’s psychology, particularly social psychology. I think this is worth reading. I’m majoring in psychology and I truly and honestly believe it explains a lot, including why people get so defensive when you suggest that their online patterns are changing their expectations and behavior in a way that harms themselves and others. And the worst part is, the red pill plays on this concern in …

I think a lot of people who are insecure and maybe struggle with emotional intelligence need to feel like they’re above someone. Women have been that someone for much of patriarchal history (especially women of color).

The same reason they took religion out of context when it worked to get their way

It's because the kind of men in red pill spaces actually project a lot of their own behavior onto women. The truth is, THEY want the "best" women but they know the "best" women wouldn't even look in their direction. The best part is, I don't think they're even truly attracted to the "best" women. It's because they want to pull the "best" possible woman to make other men jealous because deep down they know how awful they are, and they know that's the real reason they've always been excluded. Pict…

I really wish I could offer help or words of comfort or wisdom. As a white woman I do not share your experience but I married and had children with a brown (mexican american) man and what I'm doing for them is doing my best to show up for them, be their comfort and what I plan on telling my kids growing up is to just find the people who really care about and show up for you and stick to them like glue. I don't know if that helps but I saw your post and felt like maybe I could offer a little supp…

I can give an example. I married a man who is a racial minority (I’m white), and he is not wealthy. I grew up white, with a fair bit of money. I’m 23, I take fitness seriously and I may not be a bombshell but I’ll admit I do look alright. My husband has a beautiful heart, he makes me laugh, he’s kind and considers everyone around him, he’s an amazing father and an amazing husband. He knows what he wants for his life, a loving marriage and family, which is exactly what I wanted. He’s firm in his …

Exactly. It’s all about bending everyone else’s reality for their own benefit. They like religion as long as it means that they can get away with their behavior. They like science as long as it means that they can get away with their behavior. But the second that either religion or science says their behavior is a choice and inexcusable (which is a true statement), they hate it.

They don’t actually think that. It’s just easier to try and make everyone around them think that so they can act however they want without being held accountable for their behavior. That’s also why they’re obsessed with “holding women accountable.” It’s projection.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
